Blackberry for interns?

Curious if banks give out BBs to interns still. I've noticed there's an app that some banks have that lets you use your current phone and merge it into a personal and work phone, but not sure if that choice is given to interns.

Yes, you will get a blackberry (no idea why you'd want one) and you will not be allowed to use your smart phone. Remember this is all privileged communication.

Not necessary -- you'll likely spend most of your waking hours in the office anyways. Most banks also offer a way to check your email off the network (i.e. you can check it from a home computer), and will want you to check every couple of hours when you're not in the office (weekend afternoons, if you're not already there).

Though, from what I've heard, some BBs do give out a data Blackberry to each of its summers... I know my bank doesn't, but some do. If they don't, I wouldn't bother getting one just for the job -- only do it if you want a Blackberry for personal reasons.

Isn't it more difficult without a blackberry? Normally they call you in if something urgent needs to be done. Wouldn't you have to just live at the office 24/7 so you don't miss anything that needs to be done? I know you're there most of the time anyways, but even more so without a Blackberry.

How else would they chain you to work when your outside of the office...?

Not at my bank. SAs did not get a blackberry.

Not surprising though - what a pain in the ass to transfer a plan and number for 2-3 months.

How else would I chain summer interns to their desks and make them do all my work?

Not sure about S&T, don't think there's too much of a need.

And yes, the Blackberry is cool for about a day until you start waking up to vibrations from emails sent in Dubai in the middle of the night and having nightmares about the flashing red light.

Unfortunately, even more jobs outside banking are starting to use the Blackberry... fun times.

go chelsea.

didn't get one last summer at a bb. was a blessing. you don't really want one - people will call if they need you.

i just got into a habit of coming into the office on the weekends at 1130am and then talking to my teams. was able to get anything done that needed to be done.

believe me, you don't want one. everytime i feel that buzzing in my pocket, i die a little inside. with the blackberry, the fun truly does never end...

Once more into the breach, dear friends.

only redeemable feature is brickbreaker, which is addictive and has nearly caused fistfights over high scores in my group....

Once more into the breach, dear friends.

I'm still in school and I saw my buddy who sat next to me in accounting yesterday get all the way to level 34 on brickbreaker, in class. And then he kept going... was I easily impressed?

lol... i heard SA's dont. And if you do, it's used.

As for phones, just unlock your cell phone (if you're AT&T its free) before you go and buy the prepaid chips. They're pretty cheap. Something like 7hkd cents / minute? I forget.

Most summer analysts get blackberrys at BBs. The only banks that don't give them that I know are UBS, CS and DB. This is a debated topic on this forum (there are other threads about it) but I think they make ur life much easier.
