now now Jimmy, play nice.
enable, I'd try some searches to read up on Warburg...they are a well known private equity mega fund.
Thanks
Sorry Patrick, long day and hate to see this great site constantly ruined with these posts
Has anyone here heard of Blackboulder? Or was it Blackrock?
You're thinking of Blockbuster. Fuckin interns, man....

REDMEPTION
well in his defense, there isn't a whole lot of information about the firm on WSO...
I have no clue on their performance, but having worked with their London office in the past, I can say they are a solid group of professionnals, with former people coming from the industry in the investment teams. E.g. I've been in contact with one guy from the deal team on a transaction once, who was the former CEO of a company they had acquired in a particular sector and he now provided them with a lot of insight. Long story short, I liked their approach a lot but have no clue on their performance.
A recent article: http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/08/17/warburg-stays-in-fray-but-off-pu…
Some take-aways: Fairly young senior management PE-focused, not interested in other types of asset management (though I've seen their fund in a few distressed situations, so this may be more about the one-fund structure than really not getting into other asset classes)
I'm going to bump this...they're actually recruiting for undergrad for the first time
Does anyone know if they recruit MBAs? Also what is the recruitment timeline? Thank you!
Really, recruiting out of undergrad? Where'd you hear that?
they interviewed at wharton, 14 people for first round. ballers only though

Anyone worked/working at this firm ? or know someone who's worked at WP ?
Thoughts on pay/hours/lifestyle/exit opps
Also would be interested to know where you rank it among the heavy lifters of P.E. i.e. what kind of reputation it enjoys on the street
i know a lot of people who have done it. It has a strong reputation. People are generally very intelligent and very technical. I think the atmosphere is more intense than other Cali funds (ex TPG).
It is a top tier PE fund and its tough competition just like other top tier ones.
^^ So it's main focus is technology investments ?? Also, I thought that their NYC office was well regarded, is that the case or is the Cali office considered more prestigious ?
Not entirely sure how my post conveys the idea that they're technology-focused (" very technical" = very finance smart - have their heads in the numbers).
Not sure about NYC vs. Cali. Everyone I knwo works in Cali.
Just thought that since you only mentioned Cali, that they concentrate mostly on tech, but thanks anyways.
They are definitely not focused soley on technology investments. They do have a very nice sized real estate fund.
They also do a lot of Natural Resources work, healthcare, etc.
i work in real estate private equity and would love to find out if i had a chance of getting into somewhere like Warburg Pincus.
how does one go about this? i don't know anyone at that firm. should i contact them directly or does anyone know which head hunters they use?
oh ok cool - sorry. Just making sure I didn't imply something else.
WP is unique among the large funds in that they are organized into industries that invest across the age spectrum of targets. E.g. their technology group will do both start-up funding and late stage LBO-like investing. They also have an "LBO & special situations group" which is focused on the consumer/industrial sector, which is more mature anyways. What this means is that analysts in most groups at WP see a greater number of deals that are smaller in size, but may work harder as a result.
You're spot on IBDon.
Any idea about compensation ?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here can give me a low down on Warburg Pincus. I searched around and did some googling, it appears to be a very prestigious PE firm? I'm an undergrad, currently in the process of trying to get in at a hedge fund straight out of school as an analyst. My full passion and interest is in the markets.
HOWEVER (lol), my stepdad just told me a contractor from his workplace apparently has a son who is a superstar at Warburg. They tried to pay him to not go to HBS, but he went anyways, came back and is making even more bank (something like 285 salary, 300-500k bonus). Anyways, my stepdad apparently mentioned my hedge fund/financial aspirations, and the kid's dad has told my stepdad to send him my resume, and he'll run it by his son to see if they can find me a summer opportunity for them.
Being that I've been doing the markets since I was 16 (so I know the hedge funds), I'm really not familiar with private equity firms at all and was wondering if anyone here could comment on working there. Great reputation it seems? Will it be a good starting place before moving into hedge funds?
Any/all thoughts welcome! P/E noob here....
I would like to extend a warm welcome to myself, Prestigious Pete. I am a jealousy amalgam, created from combining all the conceited, self-assured finance super douches into one man called Prestigious Pete.
After finishing up at Andover, I went on to attend Yale University, where I majored in Sociology, played Varsity Golf, and was president of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. I then marched over to Blackstone M&A upon graduating, because Goldman Sachs was not prestigious enough. After my brief stint at Blackstone, I went swiftly to Harvard Business School, where I spent two years going to costume parties, travelling the world, and adding hundreds of notches to my bedpost. After graduating from HBS, I now work at a private equity megafund. At the tender age of 25, I make 450K base, wear a $40,000 watch, and have outsourced the tying of my shoelaces in the morning to some nice Puerto Rican chaps.
Not sure what I said that prompted such a sarcastic answer, but thanks for wasting a minute of my life :)
Do you know about the hedge und schflity five yes count to there and you no why can't staple it staple financning will get u there what if card unviersal charger world is becoming more universal.
hope that helps.
Bridgewater recruits undergrads but the culture's not for everyone. Yes, Warburg is prestigious.
Sigh...
If you actually have an opportunity to interview with Warburg, shoot me a PM and I can give you some insight.
Sorry for any I offended here by using price to earnings shortform for private equity....
You should probably ask your BFF Jill, she knows like everything....especially about the markest, only she was 15.
But to answer your question because I feel bad: yes.
Why is everyone giving this guy a sarcastic answer? Jealousy?
To answer your question, yes, Warburg is an excellent PE firm. You'd have to be receiving some very compelling HF offers to turn down a summer internship with them (assuming that they intend to convert your internship into full-time employment).
How good is Warburg Pincus. best route to get in as an analyst? (Originally Posted: 08/22/2007)

Ha! Definitely video resume. Post it on here too.
It's a fantastic shop.
I heard from some MBAs I was working with that they hire exclusively from Harvard and Stanford business school.
Great shop. Large presence in India. Closed a $1.2bn REPE fund recently I think. Know a kid who joined them after a year at one of the BBs (think UBS,CS etc), so they do pick people directly from the BBs after a year or two.
My neighbor was an MD there, and looking at his new Aston Martin, I'd say they do all right.
I've heard from a few places they work you pretty hard, but I guess nothing good in life is easy.
your right abt the large presence in india. is it worth going through a regional office as it might be easier to get the foot in the door. they dont even have a career tab on their site. so much for getting hired

Anybody know the culture of the nyc office or any specific groups within the nyc office? Interested in bschool placement, lifestyle, compensation and any other helpful information. Thanks all!
I know someone from college just finishing up there. Seems similar to most other mega funds. Great placement - they're going to HBS, but rough hours - basically the same as banking.
WP is much like any other mega fund in that you work really long hours. Similar to IB but great BS school placement, compensation and prestige.
One of my friends did a summer analyst stint there (through some pretty big connections) and she still got hit pretty hard. Prestige, comp, and placement seems on par w/ what State of Trance said.
what is comp there? heard it was below other megafunds...
250-325 all inc. is what I have been hearing. From several people I know at WP.
Thanks all!
Culture/lifestyle is pretty brutal. Compensation used to be below average but I think they brought it up recently. Bschool placement is same as other megafunds.
They raised a pretty big fund recently though, so if you're going there now you have a good chance to get on lots of deals
They do a TON of minority investments/growth equity. Not necessarily a bad thing but WP is not your typical buyout shop.
Does WP separate their growth equity and buyout teams?
Warburg comp (Originally Posted: 05/14/2010)
Anyone know what pre-mba comp is like at Warburg? Comparable to other megas? Slightly lower? Any help much appreciated
