I've been failing to get a job in Hong Kong so far. If I apply for this Sales role is it possible to lateral to S&T at a BB later? I swear this isn't a troll post. Thanks
College buddy of mine worked at Bloomberg right out of school and busted his balls trying to leave. He ended up going to a Low Tier IB in Texas just to get out. He hated the shit out of that place.
I have heard mixed things about bloomberg - girl I know liked it & the guy I met didnt for whatever thats worth. However, I would apply for the position. You will get interview practice and possibly a fall back job.

It's as good a place as any to get started as a quant developer. We had a few folks transfer to where I work and they are fairly smart.
I worked in data there and hated it was so glad to leave

Hello All. I have quick question regarding Bloomberg.. would be interested in hearing your opinion. Lets say, you are interested in the energy industry and have a more finance/economics type background. Would a job at Bloomberg reporting the energy market be a good fit? Is it possible to go industry side after this you think? Or is it solely a journalism role.. with no exit opps to business. I have a friend who works at Bloomberg and was just wondering what you guys thought on this. In no way am I saying I would chose that kind of thing over a finance gig.

You're talking about Bloomberg New Energy Finance right? The most natural transitions would probably be energy-related market research, consulting, or working for an energy company. Look up LinkedIn profiles of ex-BNEF guys and you'll get a better idea.

As someone who was set on a career in trading for a while, I've recently realized it might not be the best career for me. I enjoy the markets (on track for the CFA), but am also very good with clients. If trading is not for me, then I'd be interested in a position in a client focused role that still requires a high level of understanding of different markets and the economy. From what I've heard, account manager roles at Bloomberg may be a good option. Does anyone know what the company is like, and the earning potential is? Is it a good company to be for a long time, or it mostly people who spend a few years to get knowledge and training and move on to bigger and better things?

Honestly, I don't understand. Sales isn't your thing but you want to be an account manager at Bloomberg? You know they do very little with actual finance right?
I can see how my post was confusing. I'm comfortable upselling an existing acct, but am not a cold caller or someone pitching a hard sell.
I thought the sale is made, and the acct is handed off to the acct manager who is responsible for training and growing the accts. True, growing the acct is sales, but this is after the relationship is made, and isn't what I would consider a hard sell. Is that what the role is like at Bloomberg?
I've been in a AM role in the past that required upselling, and did well.

Currently at a BB in compliance. Role is interesting but not something i'd want to do for the rest of my career. Ideally would like to go to a role in the business but would prefer to not go back to grad school (financial reasons). Looking at Bloomberg Sales and Analytics role, would like to get some sales experience. If you have any experience or knowledge on Bloomberg LP and working there would love to hear from you. no one actually wants to work for bloomberg... just as no one actually wants to work for factset and no one actually wants to work for capIQ. they may give you a fancy title, such as "Consultant" or "Data analyst", but, in reality, it's either a sales job or you're the guy that I'm b*tching at when I press F1 F1 and you take 20 mins to respond.

lezynski, you should know this, I don't think the other people would like me defacing the public bloomberg terminal... especially since, while F1 may not be used on personal computers, it is very often used on the bloomberg machine.
b2 is actually right - why take the time to learn all those stupid Bloomberg codes when you can just hit F1 twice and have someone tell you what you need to know in 30 seconds?

in one of their top programming groups. he likes it. they make an ungodly amount of money, something >$4b sales/yr. it pays to have a monopoly market

Would work for a hedge fund be possible somewhere down the line? Or are you restricted to the tech space?
