The Ron Paul Media Blackout
So I had a great weekend in Germany and, believe it or not, the Ames straw poll was all over the news over there. You can imagine how stoked I was to see Ron Paul almost win the thing, and only take 2nd place by less than one percent. Not that you'd hear his name anywhere in the media, though. They seem to be taking great pains to avoid even saying his name. Does this guy scare the establishment so badly that they dare not speak his name? What do you guys think? Here's a pretty funny take on the whole thing by Jon Stewart:

It freaking pisses me off. The lamestream media has become the enemy, IMO. On top of that, the overall populace is so stricken by the bullshit they produce it's not even funny. i'll be honest, I'm to the point where I'm about to start buying ammo by the case again for if/when shit hits the fan. I really don't know if I can endure another 4 years of Obama or any other Dem/Rino. I know I can't endure the direction this country is headed. Ugh, makes me sick thinking about it.
They did the same thing in 2008. Won't be any different in 2012...Americans have become retarded.
I despise the mainstream jewish controlled media as much as anyone else, but Ron Paul's views on monetary policy are deeply flawed. And in foreign policy, he goes too far towards isolationism.
Nice, dude. Thinly veiled racism and complete ignorance of monetary policy.
You should've gone for the hat trick.
I'm gonna sidestep the racism stuff, but on the monetary policy front:
It all comes down to the Phillips Curve. If your biggest concern is inflation, Ron Paul is your guy. If your biggest concern is unemployment, he's your enemy.
In the end, if you made your money or are in the process, you're worried about "store of value", so Ron Paul makes sense. If you're not on the fast track, if you're concerned about job prospects, you're fine with a little inflation if it helps employment prospects. And that debate is as much political as economic.
Thinly veiled?

Ed, Ron Paul is an unparalleled threat to the status quo and sometimes, I fear for his safety because his eventual victory in the Republican race (I am calling it, he is going to beat Romney). CNN and CNBC are fairly fair to Paul, but Fox News hates him. Just watch Hannity talk to Paul. His sustainable fervor against our 1 trillion dollars of yearly militarism makes him a massive threat to the massive companies that do nothing but build useless things and the contractors who service our empire abroad.
Excellent synopsis EOK!! If he beats Romney and gets the nod from the GOP, will he beat Obama?
Not if the Bilderberg Group / CFR has anything to say about it...Ron Paul will not be President.
Paul seems fairly rational. His social policy could be called liberal and his foreign policy would make most liberals/ colege-educated people happy. 11 years ago GWB ran as a "peace" candidate.and Paul has essentially repeated GWB's winning foreign policy. He will definitely defeat Obama if it comes to it. The GOP is his biggest threat. He was reduced to talking to some Fox News bimbo this morning via webcam, showing how much of a threat he is to the status quo.
How can you not like the guy? Even if you do not agree on his policies, the man makes RATIONAL arguments AND says what he means.
You people do realize that if Paul is elected he will overhaul the federal reserve- meaning a good chance that loose fed credit facilities and comparable programs- the ultimate source of our (work at a BB?) near-guaranteed profitability- will be jeopardized? A Ron Paul presidency would cause a chain effect that will lead to lower incomes and bonuses on wall street.
The fractional reserve system and the "Bernanke/Greenspan put" are unsustainable anyway. The jobs that are built on that form of central planning will eventually go up in smoke just like every other utopian fantasy of government always does. In reality, you cannot have a lender of last resort (especially one that is literally owned by the banking system) without creating massive moral hazard that eventually ends in debacle.
Time to start looking for a new career?
I feel that most people only know Ron Paul from his book, "End the Fed." Honestly, if elected I sincerely doubt he will do as he outlines in that book, or even if he does, that it will have the effects he describes. He doesn't know everything about how the Fed operates, and once in the Oval Office I think he'll realize that it isn't as simple as he thinks it is.
This, it was exactly the same way with Obama. He was going to close gitmo, and end the wars with in a year. Its going on 3 years now and he has not done either. It does not matter how highly ranking you are in the congress you essentially are clueless when it comes to what is really going on. You do not figure this out untill you are sworn in as president.
Really? That's funny because it seems most educated people like us understand the limits of presidential power, you think politicians don't? They know all this, but they know idiots will still vote them in for their hollow promises. As disenfranchised as I am with all aspects of politics in Washington, I'm equally appalled that the American populace has stood by and let all this happen as they keep falling for trick after trick. Have the sheeple really become that stupid??
Paul / Perry 2012 would be sweet.
probably right.
Ron Paul is the man. I just want him to win because he seems more honest than the next guy and is willing to shake things up, which is exactly what needs to happen in DC. I don't really see the Fed being abolished if he's president, remember that Congress and the House need to agree on laws as well. I think he could definitely rile up the markets though.
the video is hilarious by the way...and oh so true.
Ron Paul is the only political candidate I have ever donated money to. He's the most honest politician I've ever seen, with consistent, reasoned arguments.
I heard Romney speak the other day for the first time and listening to him i wondered who would ever believe his bullshit. I mean the dude is running shit out of his mouth...go Ron Paul but no way in hell the media or the rest of the politicians let the man be the next pres....I can see the headline in the future "During the Presidential election Ron Paul got 65% of the votes so let's congratulate the new President of United States Matt Romney (or whoever)." Ahhhhh frustration!
Also, I don't think he would do all he plans to do because having a certain ideology doesn't necessarily translate into direct results. Imagine him trying to pass anything through current Congress that would be something, but I do believe he would make great decisions that would not hurt this country in the long term.
Ron Paul is fine, but if you guys think one man, elected President, is going to magically change things then you haven't been watching the current President for the last 2+ years. Congress has the power and unless Ron Paul clones himself we will still be stuck with the current bullshit we have now.
I agree Ant, but the main reason I am for Paul is his honesty and actually doing what he says he's gonna do.
To all the people worried about hiim abolishing the fed and what not, that's why we have checks and balances.
We talked about this last night. President is basically irrelevant, congress is the #1 enemy of the state.
With all due respect this is absurd. The President has veto power and given the split in congress today almost nothing could get by his veto. The Federal government would instantly have its nuts chopped off if he was elected. He also would be commander in chief and since none of the wars we are in are actually declared by Congress, the President could end all of them on day 1.
PREACH IT, BROTHER!
Ron Paul is not electable. The liberals will vote for Obama and the moderates will stick with the current fool vs elect some guy who is going to go ape shit. Your not going to get the conservative vote so he will largely lose the south and he isn't going to win the North either.
I agree he is awesome. I was a Perot fan also. But you have to pick a horse that stands a chance at winning.
Frankly, that fucking moron on the daily show is enough for me to not vote for Paul. It sickens me that the youth of this nation consider a crappy comedian to be the source for news and opinions.
That's really unfair. Stewart has been a very good, balanced commentator that has highlighted the hypocrisy/idiocy of both parties. His show obviously values comedy above all else, but it's a great source for people who would otherwise not watch the news. He's also had some very impactful segments on both his show and outside it. Hell, name me one other person that got a show cancelled all by himself (Crossfire). I like his show if for no other reason that it's devoid of partisan bullshit. FoxNews sickens me, as does MSNBC. CNN is moderate, but for retarded people. It's actually a disgusting truth when you consider its focus is comedy, but Jon Stewart's show is actually one of the more insightful and honest political news shows on TV.
I don't usually watch Jon Stewart, but I had noticed that after Ron Paul placed better than anyone would have expected in the Iowa straw poll, the mainstream media was still not considering him top 3 material or even mentioning that he did better than expected. That video caught my attention the other day and again when I saw this thread because even "crappy comedians" are picking up on this and talking about it.
Great idea...vote for the "electable" Romney. Enjoy four more years of the same crap we got from Obama and Bush. bigger govt, more ridiculous wars that make no sense, etc. I will vote for Paul or if he is out of contention by the time my turn to vote comes up in the primary I will just stay home. Romney vs Obama = I dont have to worry about making it to the polls on election day because who really cares between those two?
If there is ever a time for him to win, it would be 2012.
I think he is pretty liberal slanted with things. With that said, I rarely watch TV news so I will defer.
Jon Stewart is blatantly liberal slanted, but this video is fair and legit. All tv news is horrible. It is made for the average American, which happens to be a retard.
Look at Politico's headline the day of the AMES straw Poll..."Michele Bachmann wins Ames Straw Poll Tim Pawlenty gets third" They changed the article's name so the Google search shows it as it was. They got so much shit these past few days that they changed it to "Michelle Bachmann Wins AMES Straw Poll"...still no mention of Ron Paul. The media and mainstream pols are scared of Ron Paul because his ideas resonate with the American people, and yet are so contrary to the big government/big spending/big military ways of the current.
I think Rick Perry could be OK. I want a Tea Party yes-man in office, because if we get some dude into office and he GWB's us I'll be so pissed. Perry's rhetoric lately has been good, but he was a Democrat not too long ago.
Regan was a Democrat before he ran for President on the Republican ticket.
That's not really true. I mean technically it is, but he left the Dems pretty much right after WWII. He didn't run for President until 1980 (unless you count his unlikely primary run against incumbent Gerald Ford in 1976).
JFK-ville hahaha. Solid points though. I agree on Paul's inability to reverse those things but you're right, it is possible for him to make progress in the areas that he (and most Americans it seems) thinks are the most important.
Ron Paul 2012 or we're all fucked. Go read all the bills he authored, all the speeches he made. Go check his voting records and read his books. This is the man we want to lead us.
Further evidence of media douchebaggery:

FUCK Fox News
@dwight LOL. That is some serious amateur-hour bullshit right there. Faux News indeed.
Wow @dwight, how do they get away with blatantly editing the tape? Jesus, that approaches the point of libelous behavior. How does anyone watch that channel without the rosy heat of embarrassment?
@Dwight. I agree, Stossel is the only person on Fox News worth listening to.
Never will watch Fox again....Lol at Paul's reaction...He was a bit confused cause he thought the guy was talking about the end...he still gave an awesome answer!
his views put him in a strange middle ground such that he alienates himself from two major groups, the reddit group (liberal young people) (anti abortion, denying evolution) and the fox news group (opposing multiple wars and supporting a return to isolationism).
It's official: The media is ignoring Ron Paul:
http://www.journalism.org/numbers_report/are_media_ignoring_ron_paul
This is pathetic. If they covered him he would have a legit shot at winning the nomination.
There are 18 months to go and Ron Paul is still in a solid position. Perry, Bachman and that piece of excrement Santorum will fight it out because they are all steeped in the same ignorant and wildly religious core. That leaves teh moderates with Romney and Paul. Paul would crush Romney head to head. Paul's core is young and he has the support of the Koch brothers.
Bread and circuses. Bread and circuses.
I'm liking Ron Paul more and more by the day. I can't say I completely agree with him from a policy perspective, but he's more cogent and has more of a spine than any guy out there right now. I think I need to read Rothbard's Case Against the Fed to develop my thoughts on the subject. Monetary policy has been horribly mismanaged since the days of Volcker and something needs to change. Dropping the mandate of full employment is a start (the ECB gets thqt one right), and so would staying as far from the political process as possible (the ECB has had way too much sway on the European debt crisis talks frankly).
Unelectable, but he's neck-and-neck with Obama:
nm
He's had my vote the last two elections...
Ron Paul spitting truth like a boss:
