Is there another good finance-career forum out there?
I was reccomended to this forum by a friend - he said it was the best one out there - and there does seem to be a lot of knowledgable experts in here. But, there also seems to be about 3 or 4 times as many bitter smart arses. So, I was just wondering, do any of you know of any good alternative forums out there?
try www.4chan.org they are origination dedicated to helping future bankers who will earn over 100k
In my experience, this is hands down the best finance and Wall Street forum on the internet. We give out a ton of good advice, brutal truths, and I even know some people that have gotten jobs or internships through WSO.
Just wait until you've worked in finance for a few years. Maybe someday you can be a bitter smart ass too.
Redacted is very a good one.
Mod note: Take your meatspin back to middle school.
haha this went like this
mod: clicks on url at work mod: YOU SPIN ME RIGHT ROUND.... person in cubical next to him : EWW WTF YOU PERVERT mod: BANNNNNNN dddddddddddddddd
Better than WSO? Surely you jest. Try Wilmot, Nuclearphynance, trade2win, elitetrader.. I wouldn't get your hopes up though. CaptK is speaking the truth.
Other finance forums, aside from WSO? (Originally Posted: 03/23/2010)
Are there any other good finance forums aside from WSO? I know wilmott, nuclear phynance, and quant net, are geared towards quants/developers/programmers. But I haven't seen any other forum that is like WSO.
analystforum.com mostly people taking the CFA
Quants hang out here:
www.nuclearphynance.com/
www.wilmott.com
www.global-derivatives.com/
www.quantitativefinanceforum.com
hope this helps
is there anything like these sites out there for Silicon Valley tech careers?
Thanks for mentioning this links here. I was searching for financial forums.
I would agree with the first 2 links, not sure about the last 2, especially the last one :) Did you actually go to the last 2 forums and see any quants there?
I regularly post on quantnet. I think it is the best quant forum if you want a mix of quant and high end social commentary.

Are there any forums where we can intelligently discuss general finance, market movements, investment ideas, etc.? Tried reddit (way too many retards), valueinvestorsclub (good information, not enough discuss), seekingalpha (could be better), etc.
Thanks
I would suggest you stick around and figure out who the helpful people and "bitter smart arses" are. Most of the senior members (look for Top WSO Users and Silver Banana Leaders to the right of the screen) are very kind and have useful information to contribute from their experiences; along with other users too.
WSO is a fairly large forum with a lot of traffic so it's a given that there will be some... err... disgruntled users. Being a finance-centric forum doesn't help much with toning down the pretentious or inflamed egos. Just ignore them, they never stick around too long anyway.
You can't even do that in the real world. If you do find an online resource, let us know.

Thanks for the support! definitely think that forum has a lot more potential.... dontbugme how about leading the way in there?
Your just not gonna find the breadth of knowledge/resources/involvement anywhere else. On top of that, its pretty fucking stupid to ask people here to tell you about a 'better' forum. If there was a place that was far superior to this one, don't you think most, if not all, of the people here would be using it.
PS you need a thicker skin if you want to go into this business though I hope none of the bitter smart arses hurt your feelings.
This is probably one of the better ones but it's not too smart to ask the people in the forum if its good or not.
