"Old" man career switch - stuck in the middle?

Hi All,

I'm a bit older than the average prospect (38), but will walk through walls to get to where I want to be. I'm trying to break into PE, VC, or a decent HF. Made a big career switch from being a professional musician to the world of finance and didn't have a ton of school options given my life situation at that time.

Was hoping to get some feed back on this resume. Certainly doesn't tell the whole picture of my background (was hoping to keep it to a page), but is a bit of a highlight reel. Will any of this catch the eyes of a Hiring Manager or recruiter for a PE firm, VC firm, or HF?

Fresh from finishing my degree, I was advised to take a job offer at a PWM firm, just to gain some industry experience, and frankly, couldn't hold out any longer without income (I'm older and have a bill structure to match!)

Anyways, enough babbling...thoughts?

Hey mate - PE, VC, HF those are all extremely varied and different career paths. It's true that you probably won't be able to get a job as an analyst at a large bank; but you mentioned you worked as a broker. Plenty of brokers out there who can take a punt on you, cost them next to nothing, and if you have enough sales skills and with your experience in music that will give you enough to chat about, you can potentially be a good IDB. However, you'll have to take a lot of sh.t, and broking is a very hard and long job to riches.

You won't get much from this discussion board as you have way too atypical of a profile. You can't get in through the standard channel, so you'll have to do your own work to get in. It's not impossible, but you will have to narrow what you want and gun for it. If someone told me I kinda want to do some PE but HF sounds good as well - that's way too vague, and I'd ignore them.

I like the resume format, does the job - you've done it well and it's straight to the point. What will get you the job though is you and your people's skills. Best of luck
