imo, men in our culture are becoming too effeminate and women are becoming too masculine.
e.g. Went into a Ralph Lauren store yesterday and half their posters featured men with makeup wearing these incredibly tight and colorful polo shirts (orange, pink,etc). And I mean tight- with the chest shape visible (as if they had boobs to show or something) and of course those carefully taned and waxed arms...jesus

I was reading an article recently (forgot where), but they were discussing this very subject. I guess current research has shown that the estrogen levels implanted in todays meat is increasing. Therefore, men who consume high quantities of meat are increasing their estrogen levels.
They go on to say this is a primary reason why men, as you have said, are becoming more feminine, as well as why there has been a dramatic increase in homosexuals. It's to the point men are actually becoming "more straight", because we are exposed to more estrogen than every before.
Now, I know some people might find this absured, but it was published in a scientific journal, so it must hold some water. Gotta love science and the theory of evolution. Someday we will all be just one sex. All a bunch of asexuals. Then you could have any type of facial hair you want, because at the end of the day you'll just be trying to impress yourself to get laid...
how about a sexy light semi french beard, depp style... how's that looked upon :)
I'm not exactly a fan of beards and stuff. I think mustaches are cheesy....but then some people can actually pull it off. I can't.

Some people can pull off a moustache. Jamie Foxx is one. Many others cannot. Sacha Baron Cohen is one.

I used to think that many moustaches were stupid. Then I met a hot guy with one. I loved it. My dad had a goatee for a while (I guess the equivalent to buying a red sports car for him). It freaked me out so he got rid of it after a while, he looked so evil.

My college boyfriend had a mustache, I saw a picture of him without it once and laughed very loudly, which he didn't appreciate. He looks awful without facial hair. But few men his age can pull it off really (being in his early 20s), guess he has one of those weird faces.
This is true, there are a few men that DO look much better with facial hair vs. without.
Generally... I don't like men who wear pink shirts or men with a mustache. Absolutely no.

If you are under 30, then you should seriously question your priorities in life if you are thinking about getting a mustache.
A traditional gentleman has been wearing pink shirts on Thursdays in the City of London now for decades. It's tradition. I love my pink shirts.
i've got a pink polo too. gotten a lot of compliments from people that have seen me wearing that. actually just from the women, a guy complimenting another guy on wearing a pink shirt is just... wrong.. not all men can pull off wearing a pink shirt though.
Usually, it's ugly YOUNGER men who need facial hair. As far as older men go, it goes both way and there is no correlation between looks and facial hair.
I personally think a young man with a mustache has the potential of looking dirty especially if his facial hair is still fine

Moustaches are a sign of awesomeness. Plain and simple.
I get a 5 o'clock shadow. I like how it makes me look older but it doesn't really LOOK good.
Some days I think about dying my hair grey, putting on a tweed jacket and pipe, and strolling through the park with a cute little girl. Maybe writing mystery fiction and making witty banter at dinner parties.

actually non black hair is the major problem imo why beards and moustaches (even stylish ones) don't suit most young Americans :) ..

Facial hair of any kind is a no-go; it's simply seen as unprofessional. During one of my internships my boss told me to look around, make note of how people were dressing/which brands they were wearing, and do everything I could to fit in. Sad, really.
There's no way you can get away with facial hair as an analyst.

How about a beard, neatly trimmed of course, on an academic? I'm looking to get into IB/PE, should I shave it before I start interviewing? Shave it before starting work if I get an offer? I got the bit above about any facial hair as a no go, but I thought it kind of helps marketing myself as a PhD. Would a beard be accepted on a transiting academic? I like my beard because it slims my face and makes me look very professor like and older to set me apart from my students. Say the word and it's gone.
