What is the most important issue that needs to be dealt with in America?

Discuss.

I think that the most important issue facing America is the lack of identity. Because of the lack of identity America has gone down the tubes with our government going in all different directions. We try to be the world police and help all the poor while still trying to have an open and free market. We can't sustain this forever, look at our defect it will only increase unless we as an American populous demand that our government stop screwing around and get it together.

Or maybe I'm just rambling because I stumbled in at 4am and was at my desk at 8:30.

Since this is a new year any new ideas?

I truly warms my heart to see so many people realizing that population is the key. We live in an information/service/value added society. Just yesterday I saw a picture of a machine that lays bricks. We no longer need massive amounts of unskilled labor. Unfortunately that is the class that is growing the fastest. So we either accept socialism or roll out totalitarian government. Either or.

Personally, I think the US will become a totalitarian/Fascist form of government. We have too much spent on military and police to go the way of Europe. Compound that with the fanatical hatred of anything communist/socialist and the fact that guns are held by mainly right wing individuals.

Drones, militarized police, the degradation of posse comitatus all point to the government moving to quell any uprising by the proletariat.

I don't know where you're living but if anything I see more and more people embracing socialist policies.

Here to learn and hopefully pass on some knowledge as well. SB if I helped.

You are right, more and more people who frankly don't matter are adopting this. All I see is the government growing and increasing control. National Healthcare is about controlling one of the largest industries in this country, not helping people.

We drop nearly a trillion on the military and are increasing Homeland Security spending. All for a ghost threat. Homeland Security is to keep the population in control, nothing else.

Take a look at liberal controlled areas. Concentrated in cities. Cities are the easiest places to control and secure.

The degradation of traditional morals and individual responsibility and the societal acceptance of people doing skeezy shit as not bad via moral relativism and groupthink.

Birth control. And this is not from a feminist viewpoint. The fact is that the underclass multiplies much faster than educated people. And it is clear many of our issues arise from the underclass. I'm not blaming them for it, it's just a fact. All societies require an underclass. But the best way to help everyone in the long term is to make sure they have access to birth control.

The US's brain drain. The mass immigration and acceptance of hundreds of thousands of uneducated, unskilled people, all while we deport our PHD students for an expiring Visa.

The entitlement society. I would say the majority of people today feel entitled to other peoples work and money. This will only continue to get worse as more and more uneducated, unskilled people flood the country and spawn more children to only be taken care of by the nanny state.

Lack of a basic understanding of finance. Many Americans barely know how to balance a check book. Of course most of them are going to feel that when they deposit their $400 into a bank and the bank charges them a $30 overdraft fee when they decide to spend $500 on a new TV, that the bank is evil and should be done away with. Of course they are going to blame the local bank for lending them "their" money at 4.5% when they want to by a house. Of course they are going to blame the bank for evil practices when the owners can't pay their mortgage because they bought a $500K house and refied to buy a BMW, all with a $50K a year salary.

I have taken the way of ANT recently, and have decided to put my head down, not give two craps about what is going on, and "get mine" while I can. Fuck stressing out about how we are dooming our society, because I can't do shit about it. Get yours before its too late.

In essence, political deadlock b/c of mainly a two party system.

If you think things are a mess now, imagine multiple parties. The two party system forces things to moderate and people of all opinions to gel into one.

We also need to focus on developing our own talent who are loyal to the USA and not China or India. Too many outsiders being accepted to business schools because of potential lawsuits regarding progressive social policies like affirmative action.

Business schools don't really develop any "talent". If you were talking about programs that actually add to innovation (PhD science programs mostly), then sure I'd agree, but if there aren't enough qualified American candidates, then what now? That's the issue many top grad programs face.

I didn't elaborate enough. I just meant simply admitting these people into top schools gives them enough access to opportunities which should be going to Americans. But, hey, we have our own education system to blame for that.

There are plenty of qualified Americans for PhD programs. The problem is that there aren't enough jobs for PhD holders that justify getting the degree. Certainly not in academia. Any doctoral program receiving funding from the US government should have a hard cap on the amount of foreigners in the program. It's that simple. No funding should go to foreigner PhD students. But what's funny is that most of these foreigner doctoral students return home after getting their degree but where does the majority of innovation still come from? The West. It's because "research" in Chinese universities typically is no more than plagiarizing from western sources. If I were on admissions for a doctoral program I would be leery of any applicant from a Chinese university because the academic dishonesty there is so rampant.

Money in politics.

The billions of dollars clogging and conversely lubricating our political system drive egregious market inefficiencies, an inability of the legislator to act on behalf of the public interest, and leads both parties to represent not separate ideals but similar corporations.

The fate of a business should be decided in the market, and the fate of a civic society decided in its civil systems. Crossing the streams has reduced the voice of the people as well as its long term prosperity for the sake of short term gains and exaggerated cycles.

The constitution should be amended to limit political donation to person to person, with a corporation not being labeled a person. A corporation is an amoral entity with a fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder gains, not a person.

What's really worrisome is the how there is a multitude of right answers to this question.
