GS 2018 Superday
Hi all, I just completed a superday for GS IBD Classic 2018 Summer Analyst program, so I figured I would create this post to help out those who will have superdays with them this summer in the future.
Here was the breakdown -
1.5 hours in length (they're very short now)
3 Interviews - Some will have 2 people
Content -
DO NOT memorize technicals. Their interviews are largely behavioral and strategic thinking. I promise. This is as recent as it gets.
First interview -
Will be conceptual / situational questions based around what you have indicated you know on your resume (valuation, anything). Just know whatever you have on your resume in and out, and come in with fresh sleep. That's your best bet. I was on extremely low sleep (Worst decision of my life).
Second Interview - Questions:
They will ask you to discuss your S&W through internships, projects, and clubs you have indicated on your resume. Another question they asked - What specifically about the work you know you will be doing as an analyst excites you?
Third interview -
Understand a brief overview of the valuation methodologies. They don't expect you to know that much since they teach you during the internship.
Then, all situationals - i.e. If a PPT your MD was about to present to a client had a mistake in it, what would you do? If you were given too many tasks at once by your analyst/VP/etc. what would you do?
Key for these: informational interviews with actual analysts, and ask them about these questions.
Lastly - Have great questions to ask them, they always allow room for questions. Also, every interview has the tell me about yourself. Most important question by far.
Hope this helps. Good luck fellow chimps!
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Did you get the offer?
No unfortunately was denied. Worried way too much about technicals and came in on low sleep. Also I didn't think about how my strengths and weaknesses were represented through my work / internships
.
i guess this is what diversity recruiting looks like
I am actually a white male. Not a diversity recruiting process at all
i interviewed with GS IB Classic for SA position maybe 5 years ago, and I remember the interview being extremely technical. I guess times have changed
Target? Usually super days are more of a gauntlet (6+ interviews) with at least one person focusing on technicals unless you have some experience on your resume that clearly shows you're competent.
lol the diversity assumptions
Is your handle hedge72 BC you're interested in hedge funds??? lololol
its my last name
very fair, given that he's a non-target with an early calendar date.
someone's salty lmao

Have these super accelerated superdays been for mostly for non-targets? My friend who goes to a non-target (but is in a business fraternity) also had a Goldman superday last week. I go to a HYP target and I don't think anyone got a superday for SA 2018 yet.
Yeah I believe they have mainly been for non-targets. I did see 2 target school kids in our group of 10 though. Your friend must've been in the same group as me. They pick one student from each non-target they have solid connections with for an accelerated superday. Not sure how the target school process works
i interviewed with securities and it seems like our composition was a bit different. if i remember correctly, most people were from a target or semi-target
This is not true. All targets sent 1 applicant for classic IBD and another for the Financing group. I'm from a target, as were multiple other people I met during the superday.
.
I had an IMD superday there and they had first rounds in the morning, and then if they liked you they would call you to come back for more interviews after a few hours.
But maybe your process was different.
No idea. It was strange. Do they usually tell you if you are rejected ??
I got rejected from mine on monday, not NYC. Said online you would hear within 72 hours and I got a call on the third night potentially you are on a waitlist, but I think they will let you know either way.
GS just switched to Vonage, so if they wanted you, they would have called.
Ya I'm guessing I'm probably rejected or best case scenario on a waitlist.... Not holding my breath. I think I was even on the waitlist for superday as they invited me only one day prior haha
Anyone else have any idea??
Double post
Did you ever hear back from them?
if you only had the morning round, youre rejected. if you had that and the afternoon round, candidates who get offers will hear within a day or two. they'll push off to tell no's and hold's (expected to be all no's in this cycle given close to 100% acceptance rate, at least according to a friend in GS IBD who is heavily involved in recruiting) until a few days later
LoneStarDevil: Yes I heard back. I am "On Hold" which probably means rejected because any one who would turn down this offer would be absolutely crazy.

Did you have to submit an online application or did you only need to send in your resume for the superday?
you only had to do those AFTER you had been selected to interview. i had a coffee chat with a recruiter on campus a couple of months ago and received an email in may saying i had been selected to interview. i was then invited to "apply" to the division that i was interviewing with as well as any other divisions that i may be interested for during the regular recruitment cycle
When did you do your hirevue interview? Im still waiting on a response from Goldman Sachs. I did mine on the 19th.
HireVue about 3 weeks ago.

@ChimpMaster how long after the interview did you hear?
I interviewed on a thursday and heard back the next monday
yeah
would not bank on what the GS site says since many times it takes weeks/months to get a rejection email.
Yup takes some time to update the status on the Portal.
Has anyone that participated in the accelerated classic IBD superday heard back yet? whether yes or no?

We're supposed to hear back by today, but I still haven't heard anything.
Thoughts?
Yup
Just heard --- probably calling you within the hour. Good luck!

Was this for Securities S&T or Securities Investing? I was at the investing one and thought we aren't supposed to hear back for two weeks?
what's the difference between the two?
investing is their prop desk and the other is regular s&t

Just had my super day with GS for services. 3 2:1, i feel pretty good about it.
I was wondering how long till i hear back, or if they will bother with a rejection email?
@tarantino they usually get back to you within 24hrs. I think they got back to me the next afternoon, try checking your voicemail
They'll send a rejection email. No idea how long you'll wait, though.
hopefully they rejected you before
What kind of questions did they ask? I applied to the Goldman Sachs Veterans Internship Program but haven't heard anything back from them yet
ok good because i know they didn't send a rejection email after 1st rounds but if i didn't get it i just want to know for sure so i can move on and get it out of my head
Every question was fit / behavioral all resume based and very focused about leadership and team work. I wasn't interviewing with the Veterans program though because i'm not a veteran. But it was 3 2:1's very conversational each about 30min in Jersey CIty
Cool. Thanks for the info!
6 days since, tomorrow will be 1 week. I figure if I don't hear this week I'm out.
Just got a call...REJECTED!
I was also at the Jersey City info session. I was there for the controllers dept. Still havent heard anything either. What dpt did you interview for?
Services, I got called Tuesday afternoon
gs final round (Originally Posted: 01/15/2013)
Hello everyone- I recently had my final round interview with the Securities division of GS.The very next day, I received an email from an analyst, telling me that she will be my buddy for the remainder of the interview process. The odd thing is I received this email the very next day of my final round interview, but it seemed as though the analyst from the Japan office was speaking to me as if I have yet to take a final interview. Has anyone been in my shoes before? any insight would be great. Thanks so much.
could anyone who's gone through the GS non-target superday shed some light on how they landed the interview? Don't think my school has any accelerated superdays but trying to see if there is a way around this to get involved in the accelerated processes
You have to be considered one of the top of your class (Can be demonstrated through being the president of a club, GPA, other exclusive on-campus programs) and have significant internship experience (I am going into my fourth IB/PE internship this upcoming summer). Then, you have to network to find who can help you get your foot in the door. Speak to anyone and everyone; you'd be surprised at the introductions you'll get from random people. Hope this helps
Thanks man really appreciate it! Good on you for already having so much experience
You may have been mistaken in your thought that it was a final round. Not your fault, as the second round of several interviews is what's generally considered the "final round" for the SA process in the US. I know friends who are going through the recruiting process for foreign GS offices have had many interviews and phone calls over several rounds where they too thought they had aced the last interview, only to be told they had simply advanced to another phone call/video chat. These regional offices are smaller than NY, so HR and the bankers very much want to ensure (read: make you jump through hoops) that you are an adequate fit both culturally and technically.
Getting a personal note from an analyst in the context you described is certainly a positive.

thank you for your reply mountainvalley ! I've had three phone interviews and the person from HR had sent me an invitation to Goldman Sachs asia superday interview (as said in the email), which I had just a few days ago via a video conference... would that still be considered a second round phone interview? because after the interview the person from HR told me that the result for the final round would be out in two weeks..- and then I got an email from my 'buddy'...just a little confused as to where I stand right now...
Hello
3 video conference is the final round for GS asia offices, you received an email from a "buddy" because she sent you a delayed email, as she has multiple candidates to contact.
The normal process should've followed as if you hear from your buddy first, before your final round, but I guess they just scheduled you early.
On a separate note, do you mind telling us what kind of questions were you asked in your final round?
thanks
hello guys, did anyone hear back for apac positions?
No, not yet
when and what location were u interviewed for?
14th. It wasn't location specific it was for APAC in general.
i had 3 video conferences with 3 interviewers 3 days ago too...haven't heard back since then it was for summer asso in asia
Anyone know how many interns hong konh office is taking?
Not very sure.. Was your conference on the 11th of Jan by anychance?
dude was your conference on the 14th?
dear god 1-2 weeks.... I'm in US, had my superday 19th in New York with bankers from hong kong
Do you know if they are still conducting accelerated interviews and how many spots would be left for the regular process?
does anyone got an offer from oct 18th GS superday? (Originally Posted: 10/20/2016)
does anyone got an offer from oct 18th non-core superday? I am just curious,,, how long should I wait?
Spots are certainly still left for the regular process, but if you're from a non-target, it's going to be very, very tough...
Don't worry too much about it just yet. Sometimes, you can get an offer the same day & sometimes it can take anywhere from three days to two months for them to get back to you. Don't make yourself crazy. When did you apply? When did you do your HireVue interview? When did they get back to you after the HireVue interview and invite you to the superday?

GS Superday - How many people are accepted? (Originally Posted: 02/11/2007)
How many people are usually at GS superday (for summer intern) and how many of those are accepted for the internship program? Thanks a lot!
Depends on the division. I think generally it ranges 20-40%. Which division are you going for?
IMD...which division is more competitive? THanks
you going up on wednesday? i heard lot of imd groups bring in lots of people to fill very few slots
Some GS offices also include situational behavioral questions. Almost like a mini case "if this happens, what would you do? How would you manage the different parties in this situation?, etc", instead of a straight up "tell me about a time you managed stress", which we all know you can BS through. The question just gets flipped to give you the situation to see how you handle the stress in that instance, how you look at things from a broader perspective, and if you have an ethical and moral lens.
Other questions include "Tell me how you plan out xxxx assignment over these 4 days, and tell me when you would have it on your direct reports desk". These questions give insight into planning and whether or not you consider other people's time. You'd want to include rolling over older, existing PPTs/Models to save time if they have them on file, asking other coverage groups for information if you have a certain question pertaining to that industry, rather than taking 24 hours to learn an industry from scratch and burn out; and giving the direct report a full day to review, along with considering the markups you'll have to do within the timeline as well. As you can see, 4 days gives you about 2.5 days to do the actual work with the rest being structuring the assignment, waiting for feedback, and markups
brainteasers often come up too.

Yeah this is pretty good although for IBD i don't think they really do brainteasers anymore.
They said Friday
is this for the accelerated process?
More likely the candidates that are not name Harvard and Wharton.
How many spots are open? Judging from the way they scheduled our interviews, there must have been at least 50+ people today....
seems like all the top posters ^^ on wso were there today. i wish i was special :(
yo32yy are you from non target and drexelalum are you too?
At Yale, but interviewed / had CV passed along by friends
good luck guys.

I'm curious when they recruited and for which schools? Accelerated process? I'm at a target and GS didn't post anything.
anyone know about accelerated interviews at regional offices?
So was this accelerated?
This was a hush hush invite thing, 3 of Seniors from my school who went have heard back and they were a no and 2 haven't heard. Seems the no's have heard today and some are still waiting
Thanks for the info. That actually makes sense given what I have heard.
what are reasons for these early interviews? Is it usually for summer interns who received offers at other firms? Or are people who just applied through the normal process given a chance at these early interviews as well?
This NY? cause I know Chicago was yesterday too?
How do people who summered at other firms get invited to these accelerated interviews at GS?
My friend at GS recommended me.
Connections is what I've heard from Seniors I know who went. They knew someone who threw a resume towards HR or a connection who pulled through. One guy who summered in JP had his MD in JP who had connections in GS recommend him there cause the MD thought it was a better culture fit
I find this very very hard to believe, actually...
A guy got his MD to forward his name to GS.
Now that's the kind of MD you want to work for. wow.
did everyone hear back today?
Some no's heard yesterday. HR said today that they are having a tough time deciding, and likely won't get back to anyone until Monday.

I know several threads were posted regarding this topic, but I have specific question that many people would like to see answered (I believe). Those that have gone through a superday, if you are sent home after lunch does this lower your chances of getting the position? Should someone feel discouraged at this point. Please reply if you have heard, seen, or personally experienced this.

I sent thank you emails but have not heard back at all yet from anyone whatsoever. Is this common?
sarcasm i take it? just curious if anyone got a call the day of
Was your superday in NY and which division?

Hi, for the super days, what will we need to bring? Should we bring an updated resume for each of the interviewers? Thanks! Just got invited to a GS SF superday and am not sure how to prepare logistically.

How do I ace it?
Hey congratulations on the invite. You should bring multiple updated resumes in a padfolio. Any idea how far in the SF recruitment process is right now? I'm at a semi-target but haven't heard anything.
hey I got a SF hirevue beginning of this month, havent heard back but i've heard people receiving offers from them, guess at this point if you dont hear anything for hirevue/superdays probly better to look somewhere else
Is this for the Veterans Internship or a FT offer?
Not the vet program, its for SA in JC. Corporate Services and Real Estate.
Hey, I sent you a message. Let me know if you got it.

What's GIR?
Global Investment Research
yeah it's on every superday invitation email I got from them
That;s interesting. Did they actually contact you before the superday?
Also, did anyone know why GS GIR is having such a late recruitment? New demand, etc? They recently contacted me and I had a phone interview over spring break.
When I had a GS superday for Securities they assigned me a mentor that I could contact for preparation, so this is normal.

I am inquiring whether anyone has any information/interview questions on the following teams:

I tried looking around but barely found anything.
Additionally, if I am attending two different super days for different divisions, will the second division know how my interviews went on my first division (super days are within a week of each other).

If you didn't hear back, it usually means you didn't get it. I also interviewed with GS last Friday and didn't hear back.
Hopefully you have some other irons in the fire..
got ST offer on the 30th morning
