LinkedIn Profile Consultant?

I've haven't used LinkedIn in awhile and have been meaning to finally get my profile updated, accept all the dozens of invitations sitting in my inbox, and network a bit. This got me thinking... since LinkedIn is now becoming as important as one's resume, are there people out there who do professional LinkedIn profile consulting?

A quick google search came up with a few results, and this one in particular caught my eye:

For $250 I will provide you with a selection of new Headlines, a revised Summary, and at least five specific recommendations of ways you can improve your visibility with prospective employers or clients. I’ll send you a questionnaire that will help me highlight your strengths. Within 48 hours, your new profile can be up and running and you’ll quickly see the results – more views, more search results, and hopefully more contacts.

What do you think monkeys? Just like you would consider hiring a resume reviewer, would you consider hiring a LinkedIn profile consultant?

I know your LinkedIn is essentially your resume and references, but beyond that there are additional ways to optimize and customize it, not to mention all the ways you can use it as a networking/research tool. How effective this ultimately is for one's career depends on the person and his/her connections, but I think everyone's profile has potential for improvement - therefore I see this as a growing position in the career consulting/coaching niche, particularly for the older generation.

While I think this alone is a bit of a ridiculous service, I foresee a broader industry of "Job Search Consulting" emerging. Applicants no longer just submit a resume, do a few interviews, and hope for the best these days. Job searches are far more "global" and myriad tools exist such as LinkedIn and Doostang to further complicate matters. Having a job search consultant that does everything to fix your resume, online profiles, and provide mock interviews could provide quite an advantage to applicants.

+1, and I think if this was bundled into a "personality management" service that would scrutinize publicly available information about you (such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and give you advice on how to best present yourself on the internet, it could be lucrative. Note lucrative and not "worth your money."

At my school we had a presentation from someone who did that, and to us (the students) the services seemed to cater to an older geneartion, one that may not Be Particularly Internet Saavy And Type Like This Throughout Their Profile.

Though I would never pay for a LinkedIn consultant specifically, I think that a job-seeker who is not knowledgeable about Web 2.0 could benefit. Personally, I'm looking at B-school admissions consultants that some folks would never dream of paying for....different consultants, different strokes

wait, wut?

BlackHatAnyone else out there work for a firm that forbids them from having a LinkedIn profile? Or am I just totally alone on this one?

really?! sounds pretty restrictive to me...maybe they really dont want the competition poaching you and/or offering you a better package.

Yeah that's pretty much consensus guess among all the analysts, though we've never explicitly been told why.

Do you work for the CIA? Or just Bridgewater? lol

I agree with CompBanker. It might be better as part of a larger internet profile management package. I don't think you can really screw yourself on linkedin, unless you are a technotard.

Still, I am sure they will sell some people on it. Folks are desperate...they are hoping that this can provide a quick fix.

Her LinkedIn profil looks like a complete circle jerk off competition. She even listed 17 years of work experience as a Genealogy Researcher. My profil looks a hell of a lot better than hers and she's the 'expert'. Syncing your twitter with private FB and LinkedIn.... come on. Just because you're lame on one social network doesn't mean you should go full retard on three. Social media expert my ass.
