Why has Mark Klein MD been banned?
Ok, my main man Mark Klein did insult prettymuch everyone on WSO, but he was also damn hilarious from time to time.
His absence has made the time I spend online that bit more depressing and dull.
Why exactly was he banned?
I think he ended up being more hurtful than helpful a lot of the time, and it was scaring people/newbies away from the site...
I don't think scaring newbies away from the site is such a bad thing
Quality > Quantity
Unfortunately on quantity makes more $ than quality does for a web site owner. He still had to go unfortunately
"Oh - the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion?"
Please stop referring to the money this website generates, how it is a business, etc. There are two options: one, you either have equity in the site, in which case it is bad taste to constantly bring up the revenue or two, you don't have equity, in which case you are just pathetically trying to suck up to the site owner.
Realize that you are dealing with adults here.
Damn, you're dropping ether napalm bombs in this thread.
This is an overly simplistic way to look at things. With low quality, how will you ever generate quantity? If I thought Klein MD was giving more than he was taking I would have let him stay. he obviously provided some much needed humor to some, although many users also complained to me that they were offended by his comments (often racist).
quality brings quantity in the long run. more idiots (you perhaps, perhaps not [?]) will only deteriote the quality of this board. and incessantly reminding everyone that money is involved is childish and gets you nowhere. similarly, cherry picking threads to delete at will because the flow of the subject matter doesn't go your way is blatant censorship and clearly detrimental.
Ok, good points guys...but no-one has actually answered my question :D
I banned him because his main purpose on the site seemed to be flaming other users...it had nothing to do with "scaring newbies" or revenue and all to do with trying to keep the forums somewhat useful and less of a personal flame war. I have no problem unbanning him if the majority of the community agrees.
i will make a poll now so everyone can vote. After a week, if greater than 50% of the community wants him back, I'll unban him and give him another shot.
-Patrick
Basically because of the recent posts regarding users not contributing any value. This was just the straw that broke the camels back. Not even sure what his last post was about. I think something about IM firms.
"Oh - the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion?"
Well, I have to say that I am on the fence about Mark Klein MD. I will say that he adds virtually nothing to this forum other then a little bit of ridiculousness every now and again. Most of his posts are hate-filled and derogatory but it seems as if that might sometimes be necessary.
Anyone have reasons as to which way I should cast my vote and why? I take bribes.

Hes not even funny, wtf
.
I remember that on his comment about what to do to get into a good college, he was exactly spot on about what people should do, though he phrased it in a pretty vicious way. That was his general pattern.
I vote in favor of admitting MK. This is a public forum, an informal banter, designed to provide a wide range of diverse perspectives. The guy was clearly a moron but his posts were occassionally helpful (candid) and accurate. This isnt China/Russia...
He added value, sometimes you need people to tell those who post dumb questions, to 'F' off. He seems like he works in the industry, so its not like he makes BS comments. But I think he does deserve a timeout, sometimes he was just plain bashing things.
Like I think he insulted Asset Management, equity research and other non-IBD fields way too harsh for no apparent reason. Not sure if that was apart of his humor or what.....
If you can't stand the comments made from someone on the internet... I can't imagine how prospective monkeys would handle Associates/VPs/MDs in PERSON when they have a bad day or decides to be overly candid with them...
Ideating is right on... we're dealing with adults here.
I under where you're coming from Pat. A new user comes onto the board, asks a legitimate question, and Mark Klein MD comes and makes a disparaging/ offensive comment that would discourage the new user.
But like I said... no matter where you work in this industry... thick skin is usually a prereq...and I don't see why a forum centered around such an industry should be any different...
My point is - people don't give back to a community if he receives no meaningful advice from it.
There are tons of ways one can learn from the site. Compliments and criticism are both fine, as long as the words are constructive.
I don't see too much reason amusing users with fleeting excitements, while running the downside risk of deterring new users.
Mark Klein is a mean-spirited, angry 60 year old who has nothing better to do with his time than post on this forum and other blogs all day - sad really
.
should just put an "ignore" feature on the site...
I think some of the newbies with their self-righteous and self-entitled attitude are far more annoying than mark klein md. Sometimes mark klein md would make a comment about the industry that was simply wrong, in which case he was corrected; other times, he was pretty funny. Was mark klein md ever warned by the moderators concerning his behavior? If he was alerted about this before and just chose not to heed the warnings, that's a whole other story.
Also, I think an "ignore" or "hide posts" feature would be helpful too.
He was definitely right about a lot of things - bring him back.
Btw, trade4size deleted some thread where he made a really stupid post and I made fun of him - far more immature.
hilarious
i think it's kinda cool that posters have dialogue with the usually 'ethereal' administrator. Just a question, couldn't mark klein just make a new account and post? Sure, he wouldn't have his monkey points, and you might ban him if he reveals himself, but he'd just make another account. Am is missing something?
I can ban IP addresses.
Ideating arent you supposed to atleast TRY and act mature? This thread isnt even about me... so what does that say about your level of maturity.
"Oh - the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion?"
Don't let the power of being an admin on this site go to your head.
ou win ideating. You are way cooler and smarter and more successful than me
"Oh - the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion?"
people need to learn to not be such pussies. so the guy said things that offended someone... well stupidity offends me and so do people who get off on their little bit of power in this world (like running this slow ass web site) and ban someone for telling it how it is.
So Mark Klein MD is getting my vote to bring him back. He can certainly be an ass from time to time, but after I figured out he isn't entirely serious I started to find some traces of humor in his posts. Like one other poster mentioned, some of the ignorance that is often displayed in some of these posts irritates me more then Klein ever has.
Ohh yeah, and I don't want to be a communist, lol.
Bring him back. While I rarely agreed with him, the times I didn't were often good for a laugh or sparking conversation.
There is nothing wrong with having a member who shakes things up and keeps the forum lively.
bring him back. and i didn't get my IP banned when I was blocked last time. maybe I did, i just joined from another IP.
x13, does everyone have the indiscriminate ability to just delete threads? Or if it's an exclusive thing, why does trade4size have it?
trade4size is/was a mod; only mods can delete threads. I'm not so sure that he has equity but he helps out Patrick w/a lot of stuff which included moderating the forums.
trade4size was a mod but because of the inappropriate deletion of a thread I've removed those privileges. However, he has been a big help to me moderating the trading forum and selling sponsorships (which he receives a commission -- not equity). yes, he was out of line a few times but overall he's really helped WSO so I'm appreciative...hope that clarifies.
