The name "Oasis" has much stronger positive connotations than the generic sounding "forums.studentdoctor.net".

MDs make way more money than JDs; especially if they are surgeons.

The job is way more difficult than either finance or law, so they definitely deserve it. The thing to note is they have 4 years of school vs 3 and an additional 3 years minimum (5-8 for the good jobs) with real shitty pay as an intern.

SDN also a lot of the time says to not not do medicine or dentistry for the money, and if you want money go into banking or some other area of finance. As if it is just that easy.

Getting into banking isn't easy, but it's a much easier path then going into medicine.

I own the domain DoctorOasis.com, so I have thought about this...but going up against SDN would be tough (to say the least),

If someone knows a doc and/or anyone that wants to give it a shot and is willing to fund the web development, marketing, user recruiting, and manage the community, I'm all ears. I have my hands full with WSO and JDO right now.

Likely would take $30-50k to do it right, but I would be willing to give up significant chunks of equity to someone that takes it under their wing and runs with it. The good part is if you did it with me and my web developer we could get you entire platform used on WSO.

So, I think the better question, @"Alexander Hamilton" is why are you not starting mdOasis.com? :-)

@"WallStreetOasis.com" the answer is that I know next to nothing about programming. Also, using the "Oasis" brand without permission would be a bad legal strategy.

How many active doctors do you think would actually post on the site? I don't see it being similar to WSO, it would mostly be just students and med school info.

theoretically, you could do anythingOasis.com ...again, ideas are cheap, it's all about execution :-)

Remember, the toughest part about starting an online community isn't building the platform, it's about building the traffic, converting that traffic into users and then a % of those users will interact...

Until you have the critical mass to go through the entire cycle, you are pushing a bolder up the hill, which is why you see so many abandoned / dead forums online.
