Tips for a Transfer Student

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a community college student, and I was recently accepted to Georgetown University for this coming fall. I will most likely be attending, as I believe GT has a lot of alumni in IB and will give me the best chance out of all the schools I was accepted to. Looking to get into BB/EB IB. Since I am a community college student, I fear I will be initially at a disadvantage when applying for jobs due to my lack of experience. While in CC, I wasn't able to get much relevant experience, and only worked as a CPA's assistant and a grunt in a state bank. With COVID-19, I will most likely remain as just a tutor during the summer, so I will have a lot of free time. I know GT is very club oriented and I will definitely be trying to join consulting clubs and other finance related activities on campus. My question is besides actual work experience, is there any proven program or courses that can bolster my resume and appeal to hiring managers? Thank you for reading!

Congrats on the transfer. I'd focus on using one of the banking prep courses, networking, and seeing if there are any remote internship opportunities for the summer prior to starting at GT. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, as I also transferred from a CC and currently work in banking.

Start networking with bankers in DC. Try to get an internship part time for the fall doing something related to finance.

Thanks. I'm definitely staying an extra semester, and in terms of credits I'm still considered a sophomore. When applying to sophomore summer internships, do you have any tips on my lack of GPA? Noticed that some people said not to mention community college on my resume, so was confused as to what to do. Thank you

Congrats, great to see a community college transfer. Echo the extra semester. When networking I would weave a story to include something about that. I think people admire an underdog story.
