About the mentor

I have worked in finance for over 20 years. Straight out of university, I began my career at one of Calgary's top buy-side private equity firms in the oil and gas (O&G) industry, followed by analyst stints at a boutique investment bank doing equity analyst, covering O&G trusts (which in 2005 had only just begun proliferating as an investment vehicle), and at a large O&G company as a risk analysis doing derivatives analysis for their natural gas hedging desk.

In 2007, moving to Vancouver where I met my wife, I began working at Canada's fourth largest bank as a relationship manager, originating/structuring/funding deals for Canadian middle-market (MM) companies, with a focus on M&A (buy-side). After four years of success on the MM desk, I was promoted to Vice President, managing large teams of relationship managers and support staff, both in Vancouver and surrounding areas.  I was then transferred to Toronto where I was mandated to build from the ground up, the banks media finance portfolio within its corporate finance division, with a focus on large private and public media companies. The focus here was providing both syndicated and non-syndicated loans, primarily for M&A, ranging from $20M up to $500M.

Leaving corporate banking, I hung my own shingle in 2018, founding Kaeros Capital Advisors. My firm's focus is raising debt capital for MM companies in Canada and the U.S. We are sector agnostic although tech, manufacturing, logistics and transportation and O&G, are definite specialties.

A theme throughout my career, especially within commercial/corporate banking, and my own firm, is one of leadership and mentorship. The world of finance is continually evolving and so while I may have a few nuggets of information to impart, I am also learning/adapting to the new world which includes Ai, fintech, crypto, increased financial regulation and industry consolidation. I absolutely get a kick out of sharing my experiences, and sharing ideas, with a younger generation of finance professionals as this is truly the best way to learn.

When not at the office, I can be found running or biking many of the trails and paths around Kelowna, B.C. where I live. For those not familiar with Kelowna, we share a similar climate to California and are Canada's largest wine growing region. With an abundance of fabulous wine, fresh organic produce and warm weather almost year-round, spending time outdoors with my family, our poodle dog and our friends, lake life has proven to be most enjoyable!
