Deciding between full-time 2022 new grad positions at BlackRock and Wellington Management. Both are the same/similar quant positions with the same base salary and bonus. BlackRock's available offices are in San Fran and NYC, while Wellington is in Boston. Taxes and rent are comparatively lower in Boston. Also heard that my performance could be recognized more at Wellington since it is smaller compared to BlackRock. I

Hi all, I currently have an offer for a Product strategy role in the Alternatives (PE/HF/ Infra/ Real Estate) division of Blackrock in London, as a grad. While I went through the interview process I still struggle to understand some topics and people from the team I spoke with seemed reluctant to give away too much info: - Hours. How much should I expect? 50h on average? 60? 90 on peaks? - Compensation. I know the base is now 54k GBP as an analyst. How much is the bonus and can anyone provide a rough overview of the total compensation once you (hopefully) climb the ladder (ASS/VP/MD)? - Career

Hi all, I didn't see a post for this so I thought I'd make one. The postings for SA 2021 are up already and have gone through the Virtual Cover Letter. Was wondering if anyone was further along in the process or had any other insight.

Haven't seen anyone start this discussion. Does anyone know about this? What's the thread? I applied a while ago but haven't even heard about first rounds yet. Has anyone heard back?

Has anyone applied to BlackRock to be a full-time analyst and received a request to submit a virtual cover letter? I'm not sure what to expect so if anyone has completed it and could tell me what questions were on it that would be great! I'm not sure whether to expect to submit one long story about my background or have to answer specific questions. Only two questions are asked, with 30 seconds to prepare and 1 minute 30 sec to answer the question

Hey - looks like I'll be joining BR full-time in an investments team. While I'm super thankful to have a full time offer in this environment, my heart is really set on ending up in a HF/PE down the line, so I've already thought about recruiting for IB. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on how possible it would be to lateral from BR to a top-tier IB shop in a year or two or, if I stayed at BR for 4-5 years, are exits to PE/HF possible? Genuinely curious to hear from the more experienced ppl. thx!

Hi, I have my (3 hour) superday at BlackRock Alternatives (Private Capital Markets, PE and Hedge Fund Solutions) next week. Does anyone have experience of final round interviews at BLK Alternatives - I know the process varies a lot depending on the team. In particular, I'd love to know: How is the day structured? What are the most important technicals to know? What are some common questions? Thanks so much!

I'm reposting this with slight changes as I've talked to an analyst at the FMA division in London. Basically, he said he wasn't content with his position and is actively trying to move to PMG, but is also failing. He couldn't give me any comments on the PMG division except that it's "almost impossible" for me to break into. I'd genuinely appreciate any insight into this. Is it really almost impossible? I'm taking the CFA L2 by the end of Aug then heading to my MSc (which same program the analyst I spoke to attended, except he hasn't done any CFA work). If it's really impossible, what are some

Hey everyone. I'm in a top target undergrad and my goal is to eventually become a PM at one of the top AM firms (Blackrock, Fidelity, JPM, UBS, Wellington, etc). Would anyone who's also on this track know the general way to get to the PM level? I've heard it described as simply as Top Undergrad -> Top Firm -> M7 -> PM, is this generally true? Generally is recruitment out of undergrad harder or about on-par with IB recruitment? What is the compensation generally like for PMs starting out and midway through their career? And finally, is working as a PM generally "safer" than other high finance

Just had my superday a couple days ago (11/20) for the Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) Group at BlackRock and wanted to know people's experience about hearing back. They said 1-2 weeks but i don't know if they get back to you sooner. Any thoughts?

Hello! I have an offer from a mid-sized PE firm in LA ( think $8B AUM) and an offer from BlackRock for Aladdin Client Services in NYC? Trying to decide which one to take - BR pays double to the PE firm for summer but I think full-time salaries are around the same. Two factors I am considering are - location and exits post the internship. Please advise:)

Greatly appreciate your opinion. Little bit about me, non-target school with 1.25 yr working experience at a BB in quantitative analytics role. BR pay slightly less than NM. But its not a concern for me. I like both opportunities and I know they drive me towards completely different directions. The struggle is like this: Blackrock > Nomura S&T > PAG Any input from you guys?

Hi all Briefly, I'm stuck at a Decision Point at the end of my undergrad. I have been offered a full-time job starting next year with BlackRock's alternative investments team in New York. At the same time, I have also been offered a Rhodes Scholarship to study a masters in economics at the University of Oxford. Which would you choose? I am interested to hear the pros and cons from this community's perspective and to start a discussion to help me think about this holistically. The way I see it, by pursuing the masters: - Great networking opportunity - Arguably once in a lifetime opportunity But

Hey guys, Does anyone here have any recent employment experience with BlackRock? On their job application, it says you have to take a drug test within 72 hours of an offer, which seems a bit Gestapo-esque to me. Is this true? Not that I have anything to worry about in terms of drugs, but a pre-employment demand like that may be indicative of the firm's overall culture, which I don't think is a good thing. It seems like a fundamental mistrust of employees. Anyway, anyone here have any general BlackRock experience, and if so, is this true?

Starting a thread for the 2017 PAG super day in NYC. Has anyone heard back from the 11/7 11/8 superdays yet? Know that there were a couple ones in October as well, did anyone hear back with offers or rejections? HR told us the decisions should come out within a week or two.

I applied to Investments - Multi Asset and Fixed Income divisions (NY and SF) and application says it is still under review. However, today I received an invitation to interview for an analyst position with their strategic product management group - I assume this is back office. I read a bit about it online but the job description seem quite vague. If anyone has any insight on the group, position, or interview process I would love to gain more insight. Also - better to work in a more front office position in a smaller firm or take position at prestigious firm and transfer to a more front

To anyone who's accepted an 2020 SA position with BlackRock: I've created a FB group where we can all chat, ask questions and get to know each other. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/286695325654039/ If you know anybody else who has accepted an SA position at BlackRock, please tell them about the group too! EDIT: Facebook requires you to answer all questions and accept the group rules so please do answer them (the more detailed your answers, the better) if you want to be accepted!

Hi. I was wondering if any of you have had BlackRock FMA super day(either for SA/FA) & share your experiences & how long it took them to get back to you. Also, where else are you guys applying/heard back? I have several super days(w JPMC and Capital One) but no offer yet.

Through my school, I got offered a 6 month internship with BlackRock in their Wilmington, Delaware office. The job title is "Data Services and Pricing". They only pay $400/week (possible overtime, but not that much). Also, I heard I don't learn as much there as a I do at some of these smaller companies, For instance, I could work for a small business Asset Management company for $600/week. But, having BlackRock's name on my resume is more prestigious. What do you guys suggest? BlackRock or a smaller firm, which I feel like I would learn more from (not to mention be paid more). I'm currently a college sophomore.

Any thoughts about this group? How is their reputation? Comp/exit opps/skills? BAI vs PMG/FMG/PAG? European openings are in London and Zurich. It is under Investments umbrella. Hi guys, I am currently a structurer on the sell side non BB. I do get to trade but mainly for hedging and execution. I do not run my own P&L, though I expect that to change in a year or two. Recently, an opportunity to join BlackRock at their Trading & Liquidity Strategies as a fixed income trader has turned up. Supposedly, I will be able to sit in to morning meetings and provide some inputs into the trade ideas and investment process, mainly from a liquidity point of view I guess. Given that my main objective is to eventually be a global macro trader, will this be a good opportunity for me?

I am a non-target junior interested in investing. Which of the following would be a better opportunity for the summer? GS S&T (lets just say high yield/distressed desk) vs. BlackRock Fixed Income (don't know which fund) SA I have been reading Fabozzi and distressed debt analysis and am interested in fixed income....which of the above offers would be better in terms of lifestyle, pay, exit opps, and most importantly, learning opportunity?

hi, I am very interested in applying to BlackRock PAG, i got a frd who just had an offer from them in London. I have been doing some serious research about BR, BRS and PAG and other divisions within the firm. But I had a really negative feeling after reading through the comments and stuff and would like to invite anybody who has worked at BlackRock or know about BLK to share their opinion on my findings and correct me if i m wrong. Findings: -The PAG first/second years work about 60-70 hours a week (on Sunday as well)(occasional long hours), but hours start to decline a bit after 1.5 years. -pay is subpar to industry for work of the same type. I once thought that pay is similar to entry-level analysts at BBs. But it seems it is about 20% less. -the PAG position is too tech and skills is not transferrable to PMG. Although HRs and other keep saying PAG gives a chance to understand to prop trading system thoroughly, so easier to move to PMG, that is not the case in reality.

hey guys so I am a senior still looking for a job. Struggling in a tough market out there but still searching. I have some experience as I am interning at a boutique doing equity research. My long term goal is Asset Management/portfolio management. I was wondering if someone could pull a list of boutique asset management firms for me to possibly inquire with for jobs. Thanks in advance guys

So here in the UK IB and AM firms hire "graduates" meaning you work for 2 years on a rotational basis working with different groups and then if they like you after the two years you get a full time offer. Can anyone offer more insight to this? Are you a real employee during this time? How much do you make? Why don't you just go to America where there is no grad scheme?

Hey Monkeys, A story just broke out that BlackRock is cutting bonuses due money flowing into passive funds. Many of us choose roles in Asset Management for increasing out skill set, exit opportunities , and (a very important part of overall comp) the bonuses. Curious to see what others think about current/future IB & AM roles(Analyst to VP)? Are there more banks and AM managers slashing bonuses?

Hi- curious about what the monkeys on WSO think about this. I've been told that buyside is where almost every IB analyst hopes to end up. I just recently received an offer for an investment group at BlackRock (which is, at least my impression, a buyside destination). Would you recommend taking this offer with BlackRock over doing the more traditional IB route. What are advantages to taking this offer/potential downsides I'm not thinking of? Will pay differ at all long term or will this help me bypass the traditional two years of IB work? Any advice welcome!

Interesting article in the WSJ today talking about how BlackRock is building a new bond trading platform to skirt the large spreads they have to pay to the BB's. Obviously this is still in its infancy, but BlackRock is pretty enormous, and most firms love having them place trades. If this picks up steam, it could have the ability to put a dent in FI trading profits. what do you guys think? link to article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303…

Any insights on BR PEP on this forum? From what I've uncovered so far, they do a decent amount (+50% of time for Associates) of co-investments and are obviously one of the biggest names in AM. They do a modelling test and a case study during interviews, can anybode share their experience? Besides that, I would would be especially interested in team culture, hours/ work-life and their international set-up (opportunities to work in different offices etc.). Thanks

I want to know about the exit opps at BlackRock. I work at one of its investment groups, and the role is client-facing. I am curious at: - how is MBA placement for BlackRock after 2 or 3 years - how hard it is to move into other places (e.g. HF, PE, multinational corporations, sell side) - how would you rank the following: BlackRock AM, JPM IBD, Nomura, PwC assurance Thanks!

So after doing my own research and reading this site I have realized the Asset Management is a solid career choice. So I wanted to know what is the usual career path to become a portfolio manger at a asset management firm like BlackRock, PIMCO and wellington. Also what is the salary like for a portfolio manger at these places? How to Become a PM? While there is no straight forward path to becoming a portfolio manager - our users shared their thoughts on how to get from point A to point B. I want to know how prestigious BlackRock PAG is. I am deciding between some offers between this and a prop trading shop called trillium. I'm leaning towards BlackRock right now because i hear it is very analytical and has great exit ops into hedge funds or investment banking because of the BlackRock name. Some people though have been telling me that this is a back office job and I won't be analyzing stocks, is this true or are they just jealous? Some of my classmates who told me this probably didn't get interviews so just letting you know. also is it possible to get into investment banking

Hey guys, I am an undergrad from the UK and have Spring internship offers from BlackRock and UBS. I was stunned to get UBS, and am delighted to get BR now too. However, they both overlap and I don't know which one to pick. For BlackRock, I would be in Financial Markets Advisory and for UBS, it would be in IB/S&T/Markets. The thing is I can't decide between the two firms and the divisions. Both seem really interesting. How is FMA BlackRock? How is UBS?

If you've been around the markets for any length of time, odds are you've taken a healthy loss on something. When you've been around as long as I have, you've taken a few puke-at-your-desk losses over the years. Losses are just a part of the game. You do what you can to mitigate the risk and limit your downside, and you resign yourself to the fact that you'll come out ahead in the long run provided you have more winners than losers. There's more than one way to be wrong in the market, however, and watching something drop after you buy it (or go up after you short it) is far better than the

Hi everyone! I have an interview with BlackRock for a graduate role in ICB Relationship Management in a few days and was wondering if anyone had any experience interviewing with them? What technical questions do you think I should expect? The interview is quite long (about 1.5-2 hours with several different interviewers) so I imagine there will be some tough questions. Any hints or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Guys i really need your advice I have offers from both BlackRock GCG institutional client group and Oliver Wyman Financial consulting both for London (both would be my first jobs) I was thinking of taking Oliver Wyman but reccently was told the opposite so am now V confused.... I had thought GCG might limit by exit options and comp would be better wt Wyman but I am honestly not sure? I love financial markets and finance in general as well as problem solving so think I would find both interesting. I'm a college senior and was recently offered an analyst position with BlackRock Solutions Center. Does anyone have advice as to whether this position would help my career in the long run if I'd like to do actual investment management, or perhaps even switching to the sell-side for a different firm? How are the hours? The pay seems pretty decent, but would it be on par with other financial services firm in Manhattan? Is it possible to pursue a Master's degree at the same time? In sum, should I accept the offer? Thanks
