Hi all, I have two summer 2021 internship offers currently on the table. One is with a PE shop in NYC, and the other is investment banking in NYC as well, and both firms have good names. I know a lot of people in the industry recommend investment banking first, but if PE is the end goal for a lot of people, it seems appealing to just go into it after undergrad. What factors I should think about when making a decision? Please let me know your thoughts!

How would you compare Onex, New Mountain, EQT, and Golden Gate in terms of industry reputation / brand? If you got a PE associate offer from all, which would you choose?

Hi everyone, Here's the thing: I've finished my internship and feedbacks have always been positive. Analysts and associates I was working with were all pretty confident I would have been offered a FT position. At the end of the internship, everything seemed okay and I said hello to everyone pretty sure I'd have come back with the offer. Fast forward it a couple of weeks: I got told that the team really wanted me and all feedbacks were positive but due to Covid and current business situations they were not able to offer me FT. As such, a bit sad (but that's life), I'm now looking for other

My real estate experience consists of +4 years in MF acquisitions. About 3 months ago, I left my old company on good terms and transitioned over to the development side (MF). I work for a small shop with a good group of guys who are intent on growing. Culture is good, work/life balance is good but pay is definitely on the low side with my experience. I don't have a slice of the pie and bonus is a lump sum for each deal closed. If we close any deals next year, it will be towards the very end of the year. If successful, I will be in the low 100's next year, all-in comp. Recently, I was

I just graduated in December majoring in applied econ/ finance with a credit analyst offer (had a credit internship) that was pretty decent pay for first job out of college and for the rural setting/ lower price index. I didn't want to do credit forever, but I figured a few years in a job that had something to do with finance and I could go for an MBA or just get CFA and pursue another path. This offer fell through and so now I am stuck without a job. I still have a small amount of time to apply to some MBA, but I think without some more desk experience it wouldn't be worth it yet even if just

So, I am from a semi-target looking to lateral. I went straight into a final round interview with a regional MM last Tuesday (had an alumni refer me) - I met with a mix of MDs, Directors, and an Associate. Interviews went decent to well and were completely fit based. I sent thank you emails to all and only received a response from one of the Directors. I followed up with the HR lead who informed me they were making decisions this past Monday and she would get back to me either Monday evening or Tuesday. I have not yet heard back from her and was wondering if I should follow up with her

If for an M&A process, 3 different companies make the same offer e.g. EV of $Xm, how do you compare the offers? How can the offers differentiate? One thing may be the financing, e.g. was offer is all-cash, where another is 50-50 (cash and equity). Heard some people say the make of working capital is another reason - what does this mean? Would appreciate other thoughts as well. Thank you!

Hello Monkeys, I hope everyone is well. Just had a quick question, can someone provide some timelines as to when is a decision made for a FT offer or not during the internship? Is it in the last week of your internship or last day? I assume every bank is different, I am interested in the BB process. When will the senior management or HR let you know that you are coming back or not? Thank you!

I received a superday for FT IB and I accepted a return offer from another bank in a different division. The superday bank sent me a form to fill out and it asks if I have a contract of employment which I think I technically do. I don't want this to backfire on me and then end up with 0 offers. So I want to be honest and fill out yes. However, ideally if I get a job offer from this bank I would take it in a heartbeat but I want to know if I'd be an automatic no if I tell the truth? I'm just worried if I get the offer and take it my former bank might contact them and let them know that I lied.

I recently had a superday. I spoke with the recruiter about when I should hear back and he said 1 to 2 weeks. On the other hand, I spoke to another candidate who was contacted after the superday to set up a phone call for next week. I interpret this as me not getting an offer or getting on the waitlist at best. Could anyone chime in with their experiences to confirm my suspicions?

Trying to guesstimate how long do HFs give to accept or reject an offer? Waiting to hear back from #1 choice for 3 weeks now but seems like #2 choice will be putting up an offer soon.

Hey guys, I am currently in the middle of a lateral process for a MM bank in NY and in the last month or so, have completed multiple rounds of interviews with the entire team as well as a modelling case. I was introduced to the opportunity through an internal referral and have gotten great feedback during and after the interviews. 2 weeks ago, I was contacted by HR to provide relevant documents for work authorization so they can look over it with their immigration team (I am an international applicant and need visa sponsorship) as well as a list of professional references. I just found out

Help me please! I received two internship offers for the summer going into my senior year - one from a middle market / bulge bank in investment banking, and another in a very brand-name private equity firm. I'm in a good spot in terms of my offers, but I won't name them because I don't want to be identified. At the beginning of college, I got a scholarship for people wanting to go into the education industry. I originally said I wanted to do education administration, which I still think would be good for me. But I want to first do the whole NYC Wall Street thing. The thing is, neither of those

I have already accepted an offer at a top IB and have slacked off heavily this semester. I did poorly on a few tests and have had to drop 3 classes. I was wondering if this could result in a rescinded offer when HR sees the transcripts. Thanks for the help.

Hi All, How can you stall an exploding PE offer (exploding in 24 hours)? Need to buy time of 3 business days (plus 2 days on the weekend - so total 5 days). Would greatly appreciate serious responses only. Not a hypothetical scenario here. Thank you, A Hopeful Banker Chick **3/5 UPDATE: ** Managed to stall offer. How do I leverage current offer to get job offer with top choice firm? Will an email do? Also, I don't want to mention the name of the firm I received an offer from in my email. Will that make them suspicious / think I am "bs'ing"?

Hey everyone, long-time lurker/poster but recently made a new account. My dilemma is as follows: got an offer to be an analyst for an infrastructure investment firm, the day I went to sign the contract they said they'd need me to help the advisory team too (they do advisory, direct investments, and asset management), and I said okay. Although I was unhappy about I tried to look on the bright side since I'd be getting a more varied transaction experience. Now my involvement on the deal team is deplorable, I honestly feel cheated, I came to invest in infrastructure and rejected other offers for

A little bit about me: Graduated from a non-target university, spent 2 years in a corporate leadership development program and 2 year at EY Advisory - Performance Improvement practice. High performing senior consultant, no MBA. I was approached by a Deloitte Consulting recruiter and decided to follow through the process (private message me if you have any questions about the experienced hire interview process at Deloitte Consulting) Just got off the phone with a Deloitte recruiter and here is the offer: 105K base, No sign-in bonus, comparable benefit as EY - as a consultant in S&O practice. Hi all! I have an offer from Bain, but due to Visa issues cannot stay in the office I was recruited to and need to choose one where work permits are easy to get. I will spend a year there, until I can join my original office. Sooo, I would be very grateful, if you could share any insights on business, learning curve and culture in different offices! Especially if you are based in Europe or Canada. Thanks!

Hey all, Just received an offer from a top MM investment bank, and the offer is in NYC. They gave me an offer expiring next Thursday, so have less than a week to make a decision. While I'm confident I want to do investment banking, I'm a bit hesitant about taking the offer for two reasons: Firstly, I am not confident in their exit opps after 2-3 years. While they have done well on the league tables (regularly top 5 MM bank for deal value as well as deal volume), it has been hard to gauge their relationship to PE firms/what the exits would look like. I am hesitant to give their name since they

I have an exploding offer FT for a non traditional role at a unique well respected bank. However, last cycle I came very close to landing an IB role at a top BB. My summer internship was not in IB but it did improve my resume. I submitted FT applications like within the last month. None of my applications have been read yet but I am getting a couple of emails from recruiters asking for interviews. Question: is it ok or common practice to reach out to the banks were my applications are unread at to notify them of my exploding offer?

Hi guys, Just wanted to gauge opinions on the forum about junior year SA offers my friend is currently deciding between. One is Wells Fargo IB (either in Charlotte or NYC, location not secured yet) or JPM Asset Management (NYC). He long-term goal is to be an investor, and he's been in love with the public markets for as long as I can remember. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Guys, So I'm caught in a bit of a dilemma. I am coming from a non-target school, graduating in a couple of weeks with Finance degree, 1st gen college student. Didn't do BB summer internship, but I went overseas and worked at a 2B+ hedgefund as an equity analyst for summer internship (they only hire CFA charterholders for analyst positions unfortunately) I happen to be in a very affluent town that has a lot of ppl in finance who tried to help me, but most BB fill the 1st yrs with summer analyst positions. So I'm not worried about the networking...I am interested working in Equity Research

Hi All, I'm a few days from starting my summer internship with a BB. However, I was recently informed that because a relative works for the technology department within markets at the same BB, they have given approval for me to work in the summer since it's temporary but would not approve me for a full time position. I received my offer well over 6 months ago and it was between the time I signed and now that my relative started which is why it wasn't a problem when I signed. Essentially, I turned down two other SA offers to come to this BB for the FT prospects and now I'm being told (before my

Hey guys, rising senior at a target looking for some advice. I was fortunate enough to receive a FT offer from my internship this summer. It is at a MM bank and the offer is for S & T, which is the field I definitely want to go into. The people and experiences were great (wouldn't mind working there FT), but the pay/benefits are both below street. Although a solid work experience is up there in terms of priorities alongside money, the latter definitely makes a huge impact on my current life considering several factors (student loans, expensive city, no family wealth, etc). I have to make my

For those who failed before final-round, probably they'd get the rejection news through an email, but what about the very few who made it to the final, will BB reject them through a phone call/ an email? And normally will they reject the final candidates after having hired someone? or will they reject them on the same day they give the offer to someone else? Thanks

Hello Everyone, Through the help of WSO, I was able to land myself a S&T, non rotational, internship at a BB. My first option was IB at the same firm, however I was cut after the first round interviews. I am a Junior and would like to do an IB internship, and then IB full time. However, I am assuming that if I were to accept S&T for this summer, it would be very difficult to get an IB offer full time. What do you guys think I should do? Please let me know if I can clarify some things. Thanks!

I was interviewing last week (Wednesday) for my final round at a local McKinsey EMEA office. They had a decision the same day, and called to inform me, but my native phone number wasn't working properly in the country I was interviewing at, so I couldn't receive the call. Next morning, I wake up to an email from the recruiter saying the partner who interviewed me was trying to reach me yesterday, and then she asked me if I had another working phone number by any chance. I told her the story about my phone, and gave her the hotel number to call me at until I checkout at noon. She replied to

Hi, I had my final round interview with UBS AG (London) on thursday for sales and trading. I thought the interview went well, but I still haven't received anything (whether I got an offer or rejection). It's been three days so I'm getting worried. Do I still have a chance?

How long do you have to accept/decline an offer (IB)? More specifically a MM at their headquarters. I was thinking 1-2 weeks, but someone just told me they had an offer that expired Dec 4th. This is for a first year analyst position.

Recently received offers in NYC from tech platform, commercial bank (BOS), and ratings agency. The tech role is versatile, where I will work with data scientists, model, and help with strategy. This firm has raised two very large funding rounds over the past two years and growth has been explosive. Ratings role is in multiple asset classes and the agency (Moody, MS) itself is very strong in deal flow. Pay is lower with ratings agency, but the exit opportunities are better, have job security, and I will really learn and have skills applicable to IB/PE/HF in the future. If I want to move into IB

Alright Monkeys, So I've been a long time user of this site and have wanted to give back for a while - so here goes. Today during my painfully boring Econometrics class I received a call from a BB's HR telling me I had been officially extended an offer as an analyst on my top choice team in NYC. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. The offer was a culmination of relentless hard work, but was also an affirmation of my overall worldview: that life isn't a fair place and huge opportunities exist for anyone whom, regardless of their intellectual horsepower, devotes themselves to achieving everything

So I signed my offer letter for SA, but received an updated letter reflecting new analyst salary pay raise at a BB - my initial deadline was 9/15, but after I signed, received updated offer letter with deadline of 10/1. This is still too early for me to recruit again as I haven't heard back from first rounds, but I've just been telling them that I haven't signed yet - can I get in trouble for this? First question is if I'm technically breaking any rules by doing this as I received updated letter and second is if these banks usually call up the banks you interned at if you say you got an offer

Hi folks, WSO has been a great source of advice throughout my job search - and I finally have options that I could really use your help to decide between! I'm a senior at a top 3 university, currently trying to figure out what to do for full time. I really wanted to work for MBB but didn't get an offer after interviews. I currently have offers for IBM consulting (interned last summer), Google sales, and Deloitte consulting S&O. I'm also interviewing for the Capital One business analyst program and a position with Royal Caribbean on the revenue management side. A consideration of mine would be to potentially work at MBB in the future, or work in retail/consumer goods, although I'm not sure yet what I want to do.

Recently signed an unpaid internship offer with a 10 men boutique. There's still a month before I get on board. I was wondering if there any chance the firm rescinds the offer? I don't have any reasons to believe they would but I have seen posts on firms rescinding offers. How much legal power does an offer letter really have?

Say you have a full time offer. But then you find out you need back surgery and won't be able to work for 12 weeks which would mean you wouldn't be able to start until September instead of July or whenever analysts usually start. Would they be able to cancel your offer or would they just have to deal with it? A MM bank if that might add anything

Hi guys, just a quick intro of the problem I am facing. I accepted EY auditing offer after my busy season internship in March this year. However I really want to do investment banking so I kept looking this semester for IB position and went to DB's super day last week. Today I got a call from DB that they are giving me the offer to start as their first year IB analyst next summer. Honestly this is my dream came true and down in my heart I know I will regret if I let this opportunity go. But I also fear the consequence of simply letting EY know that I am declining the offer which I already

Hey...got a scenario I wanted to run by you guys. Lets say - don't get a return offer from a known MM SA...and you lie about it in FT interviews... and accept an offer elsewhere...what are the chances they find out? Discuss with me here...you don't have a return offer...what are your chances anyway of even getting an FT job anywhere in finance? Would you take the risk (lie and if they find out, work in another industry) OR try for some boutique? would a boutique even take you or are there other options? My feeling is they don't check...only check if you worked there through some tax forms or

Greetings, Newbie here, I hope I posted at the right forum! Just wondering do you have any insights on the hiring process of GS (particularly ER?) or other BB (which perhaps can be a proxy?)? -How long does it normally take from the final round to eventually getting the offer/rejection news? -Will they reject other final-round candidates before confirming a place for the hired candidate? -How many candidates do you think there are in the final stage? -Any other insights you can share? Thanks so much.

Hey guys, I just got an offer at BCG and was wondering if I should just take it or ask an interview at McKinsey. BCG was my first interview, so I got a 100% score out of it, but as everybody always says McKinsey has more prestige I was wondering if it is smarter to try McKinsey or just go with the BCG offer. Is McKinsey really better? What do you guys think?

Hell all, I interviewed with IBM for a summer internship in their Global Business Services group on Friday February 6th and then, I have received an automated update from the recruiter on Monday February 9th that my application was being processed and that I will be updated with any updates as soon as they are available but I have not heard anything since. I have an exploding offer that expires this Thursday (2/26), and really need to hear from IBM ASAP. I emailed the recruiter on Saturday and did not hear anything today so I called her and left a voicemail. I am trying to be respectful of IBM's review process but I have a pretty tight deadline. I am pretty positive that I will not receive an offer from IBM but I need to hear NO directly from them before making any decisions.

Hi guys, Wasn't the strongest candidate, but came out with these offers. Recruiting for my school finished pretty early, so won't be able to leverage to get better offers. DB and WF recruits pretty heavily on campus (could probably guess school), BarCap and Citi not so much. Any advice on choice and best groups? I know a lot of it is group dependent, but at this point in time, which provides me with the best name and exit opp? Thanks

Just curious what everyone's opinion is on asking why bank X didn't give you an offer after a superday. I think I've read on here before that people only ask for feedback if they think the interview really went terribly, but what if you personally knew someone at the bank (e.g. analyst who was in your fraternity) would you reach out to that guy and ask him if he knew why they didn't extend you an offer? How are you supposed to figure out what to work on for future interviews without knowing where you messed up? I get that the fit might just not be there, but that can't always be the case

I had an initial phone screening in early January and an in person interview in early February. Two days later I received a call from HR saying they received positive feedback regarding my interview, but it will be a few more weeks before the next step. One week after my interview, I received another call from someone else in HR. I've looked on LinkedIn and no one seems to have a profile indicating they're incoming for this position and the position is still open for applications on the website. Does it seem like I've been put on the waitlist? Or are they just waiting until they complete all

Hey guys, I got a call on Monday from a solid MM giving me an IBD SA offer. The guy mentioned pay and background check details and said I'd receive an offer letter sometime this week. It's Friday now and I was getting a little paranoid so I emailed him a quick note asking when I could expect to sign something. I have another verbal offer for a F500 corp dev position too, and been waiting for that letter for a week since they said I'd receive one. Sent an email to my point yesterday, but haven't heard back. I know there's no normal or standard time, but how long do you guys think I should I

I'll be graduating this year and received a full time offer from the firm I worked at this summer. The role is in corp banking. The firm is pretty great, nice group, etc. However, I just keep wishing I could've applied elsewhere. Somewhere better. Of course, this is easier to think about now as I have a job, and one that I am certainly grateful for. I ended up accepting this offer due to the fact that it was exploding before any real form of recruiting began and out of fear of not finding anything else (which was legitimate I suppose given that some of my classmates are still looking for jobs and I'm at a target school).
