I've got a second round as seen from the title. On the MS website for EMEA, it seems that pre-corona there was one first round interview by phone and then straight to final round. So is this "second round" phone the final round? It would seem weird for it to just be a 30 min phone but at the same time there is nothing mentioned on their website about intermediate rounds between first and final. Would really welcome anyone who has been successful this year to share their experience. Thanks.

I've been reading these forums for a while and finally decided to make the push into IB. Currently looking to lateral internally (or externally if it doesn't work out) from a PWM rotational program into Investment Banking. I've been doing my homework and following the guides posted on here and M&I. Through my networking efforts, I secured a phone interview in ~ 10 days to "ask a few questions about your background". I assume this will be a behavioral style interview with the typical "Walk me through your resume" and "Why IB?/Why this group?" questions. Am I under the right assumptions or will

Hello - I have a Real Estate phone interview coming up. I was told to be prepared for some case-based questions. Does anyone have any insight into what this might entail? It's not an in-person modeling exercise so curious if people have an idea of what to prepare for. Thanks!

Got an email at 2am to arrange a phone interview from HK. Fair enough, I gave the person my availability and agreed on a set interview time. He also mentioned that another colleague will also be interviewing me at a different time and will contact me arrange that. So I went back to sleep soon after that. Phone rang at 6am, barely woke up and picked up the phone, turns out it was the other banker who was supposed to set up an interview. Person immediately said: "Hi there I'm calling from Bank A, can I interview you now?" "Umm I wasn't told about the interview being at this time" "Yeah, it's OK don't worry about it, it's only going to be half an hour" "Uh sure" ...

Looks like I took part in roughly 80 phone interviews during b-school, plus probably more that didn't make it to my calendar. Lot of practice. A little over 40 hours straight of the old smile-and-dial. Since we're headed into recruiting season now, thought I'd share what I learned. Standard setup for phone interviews: Be at home. Be alone. Be dressed, but shoes off. Set up beforehand: beverage, Kleenex. Laptop open with something simple-minded and funny on it. Here's something weird and possibly douchy: I set up a small mirror beside the laptop because I sound better and smoother when I'm

I am current first year analyst at a middle market bank. I have an upcoming call to discuss potential investment banking exit opportunities to hedge funds with someone created his own billion dollar plus fund. The fund is a long-short equity fund, so it ties in well with banking skill sets and exit opportunities. I was hoping to get some input from fellow monkeys who have made the jump to the hedge fund world what some insightful questions would be to ask . I generally want to get a sense of what it is like to work at a hedge fund at a junior level coming from banking. Maybe some of you guy could give me some insight into your own experience and transition into HF, too. Thanks a lot in advance.

I recently completed a phone interview with a campus recruiter at PwC. The interview ended quicker than I thought leading me to believe that I might have got rejected. I am not an accounting backgroud so I will not have enough credits to sit for cpa upon my graduation but I'm willing to achieve it since I have plans of going to grad school depending on if I get this job and stay on this track. I mentioned that bit in the thank you email I sent the recruiter after. The job I applied for have had many people from finance backgrounds who also did not go for the cpa get hired. My uncle was also a finance major who got into Deloitte achieved his cpa then and became senior manager but did not make it to partner so he moved to a different company for a higher position.

So she calls me asks me why ops, I do the whole " i want to learn more about financial markets, and want a stable job which is important in these turbulent time yada yada yada" She talks for 15 minutes about what ops is, doesnt let me get a word in (she was nice, but just kept talking). I get to go over like 2 seconds about my resume She talked a lot about the exit opportunities of ops, and the next round. So I dont know if its a good thing or bad. but wtf I never had an interview like this, even when I folded clothes in my HS days. (btw they did away with their rotational program, its not 2

I was lucky to get a heavy hitter (not in IBD, a different division) at an all purpose bank like citi, hsbc, db in asia (but not singapore/hk/china/india) to refer me to the head of investment banking in that same nation where there is no recruiting process because the satellite office is very small with only 3-5 people. The head of ibanking in that country wants to set up a phone interview with someone in singapore/hk where there is formal recruiting (which for all intents and purposes, is almost over). What can I expect from this phone interview? Typical phone interview? Fully technical? If I do well offered an SA position? I'm a sophomore, but I don't think the head of ibanking in the satellite office who wants to set up the phone interview knows that…

Aloha everyone. Next Monday, I have two phone interviews: one with UBS and the other with Merrill Lynch, both in PWM. I met my contacts through my career services director on campus, and they both know I'm looking for an internship. I have a couple of questions. First, what kind of questions should I expect from these interviews? Should I prep for them as if they're informational interviews, or prep for them as if they're job interviews?

The phone interview which use to be a 10-min, HR formality has now become a go to for employers to quickly weed out otherwise identical candidates. It's harder to stand out these days so employers can be much pickier. The phone interview is also much cheaper than sending interviewers on campus or flying out candidates for an interview. So before Recruiting season is in full swing I've put together a few tips to getting through the phone interview. It's tempting to assume that a phone interview will consist of easy, "get-to-know-you" questions, but it's better to take these as seriously as you

I recently had a 2nd round phone interview for an investment management position at a BB. Having read through some of the interview experiences here, I was pretty nervous about the possible questions. However, the questions were pretty simple: focused on my resume and past experience. In addition, they weren't hard on my answers and seemed to be almost overly nice. My question is should I worry about how they didn't really test me? Their questions all consisted of a basic overview of my resume. Too simple for a 2nd round?

Had a phone interview last Friday for IBD at a BB. Thought it went well, but I haven't heard back yet. During the interview, I asked "Is there anything else I can do to clarify my experience or interest?" Interviewer said, "Nope, I think I have a very good picture of you. The only thing for you at this point is to get you to talk to more people here." I sent a thank you email. Interviewer replied, "Was a pleasure. Keep me posted on how things go." However, I haven't heard back with a rejection or acceptance. How long should this take? Should I ask HR for a response?

Received a CS phone interview invitation from the recruiter for SA in AM two weeks ago, but till now still no one contacted me to set up a time for the interview. I emailed the recruiter about this last week, she asked me to be patient and someone would call me. But now another week has passed, what should I do then? Will it annoy the recruiter if I email her again? Is this normal? Thanks very much!

Just wanted to see if anyone has any views on Pinebridge Investments? They have about $84b in AUM and about half of that is in institutional assets. Their AUM is broken roughly by: $51b in fixed income, $21b equities, $9b alts and $12 in multi-asset. I have an information call with a contact of mine as well as an initial phone screen with an MD. Essentially the role is for institutional client service. FIRM HISTORY PineBridge Investments is a private, global asset manager focused on active, high-conviction investing. PineBridge was formed in March 2010, when it was purchased by Pacific Century

Hey Everyone, I have an upcoming phone interview with Qatalyst, this is my first phone interview and I want to be well prepared. I know my story, answers to "why tech" and technical knowledge is a given, however, I am not sure about which tech specific technicals I should prepare for and/or how deep. I know that I want to know how to value companies that have no revenue/no profit & what motives are behind M&A transactions in the tech sector (especially if the target isn't profitable). What other tech-specific technical questions should I prepare for? Thanks in advance, for your time.

I was waiting for my phone interview today, and my cell phone had perfect signal, not on vibrate or silent. About 2 minutes after the scheduled time, my phone beeps and tells me there's a new voice mail, and it's my interviewer!! Somehow it didn't pick up when she called a minute before. I tried to call her back, but all I get is a voice message. I wrote an email too, to reschedule, but I still haven't heard anything from her. Do I still have a chance? Actually this happened to my phone twice before, for no reason, but that was months ago. I called customer service and they said it might be

Well, I have an IBD phone interview for next week. This is a first round, and it is for a top 5 BB firm (think JPM, BAML, CS, Citi, etc). What should I expect, and what would be the best strategy to prepare for this, so that I am 100% prepared and confident going into this? Should I expect more technicals or fit, or a combo? And what are the best resources so that I KNOW everything being thrown at me? I currently have the M&I interview guide...should I get the WSO guide as well? Thanks guys! BTW, I'm a finance major.

All right fellas, im going to post my experience since it would have helped me a few days ago. I had a first interview with el dorado monday and this is how it went: Phase 1: 20-30 min. They explain the firm to you and give you advice on what to look out for. He explained that they dont ask for "risk capital" or training fees as do many other prop trading firms. They follow a eurobond futures strategy so it involves alot of spread trading, butterflies, etc... The hours are kind of strange for the first year, 5pm to 5am, until your a fulltime trader. But this is because eurobond futures trade nearly 24 hours on globex, and you work 6am to 4pm after your a full time trader.

I had a phone interview with a boutique investment bank and the interviewer asked four questions **Update: This was for a summer analyst position that would only pay $10/hour and only 40 hrs/week so not very serious (1) Walk me through your resume (2) Why investment banking? (3) How do you value a company (4) What happens when depreciation increases by $10 Obviously, I expected #1 and #2 but I was thrown off by #3 and especially by #4 Have you guys ever had phone interviews ask technical questions like that? Also, how would you answer the "value a company" -- would you have talked about the

Hi everybody, I have an interview coming up with with an institutional commercial real estate firm primarily engaging in large office acquisitions as well as development across the nation. This role I'll be interviewing for will be for an entry level analyst. I currently work in Wealth Management performing mostly administrative work and have never professionally underwrote anything, although I do practice on my own. I have been trying to break into real estate for some time now and have primarily focused on multi-family. However this opportunity arose and this could be a big ticket into

What's up monkeys, I've got an interview coming up for a pretty well respected AM that offers some PWM and HF services as well. It's my first interview for a proper capital markets role, but I've done some interviews for other finance/business internships and I feel decently confident about my overall interview skills. I've heard of some questions this shop tends to ask and was wondering how to answer when they ask "what are your views on the market right now?". If anyone in the industry can help and maybe provide an example of an educated sounding answer without coming off like I think I know

Hi everyone, I am from a target school applying for many BB S&T SA positions. Since my school is hit hard by huge snow storms, many of my on-campus in person interviews are being replaced by phone interviews. Are there any significant differences between in person and phone interviews? Should I go about my preparation differently? Do interviewers evaluate candidates differently?

This deserves a forum post coz it's kinda hilarious. One of my buddies working for JS just informed me about a hilarious interview. They call up the interviewee who apparently is quite bright. This kid published some serious math papers before gettin a degree. They ask him a few elementary questions but this kid refuses to answer the questions and/or answers the questions correctly w/out providing any solution path. Kiddo felt offended by elementary questions and rejects JS for further consideration before JS can reject him for uncooperative attitude. Respect!

A very important phone interview got pushed back to tomorrow, and the only time our schedules matched up was during my 80 minute layover in Milwaukee. No idea where I will be able to find a good place to do it. Not a big airport, no airline clubs, and it's the holiday season. Anyone have any ideas? I'm probably going to ask the TSA if I could use one of their rooms.

On Friday I had a phone interview for an ER internship at a boutique (which i'll admit didn't go well), he told me I could expect to hear from him within 10-14 days, but then today I got an email saying "This week was very busy, how does Tuesday work for you?". From that email I get the vibe that he doesn't remember having the phone call with me and is trying to reschedule it as if he got busy Friday and wasn't able to call me. Though I guess it could also possibly be a 2nd round interview. Do I clarify with him? Or just roll with it and see what happens?

So I just got an email about this an hour ago, it's for an analyst/associate internal wholesaling role. She mentioned it would just be a short call, any idea what sort of questions I should expect? I've been swallowed up with math/stats/options stuff lately and haven't had to think about this sort of thing in a little bit. Any insight appreciated. Thanks.

I recently had a phone interview with an IBD of a BB for an internship. It lasted 30 minutes exactly. First, the guy introduced himself and then asked me to introduce myself. I told him my story, maybe a 3 minute response. Told him about my most recent internship in ER.. then he went straight into some valuation questions. About how to value company, enterprise value, etc. I answered some of these okay... others he helped me figure out. Then he said do you have any questions for me?. He really asked no behavioral or fit questions.. I had a couple questions. But then after that, I just started talking about why i want IB and why I think im ready for the internship. Not sure how he recepted it..

I scored an interview with GE scheduled soon. The first step is a phone interview for the GE financial management program, recruiter spoke to me and said that there isn't really much that I can do to prepare and its best that I just be myself. I know thats not the full truth, anyone who has gone through this know what to expect? Or know anything about their interview process at all? Please let me know anything you can, any info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

My friend just got me a interview opportunity with Barclays' I-banking team for an entry-level position. I was wondering if I could get any advice on how to study for this interview? I've never had any investment banking experience, instead been focused on real estate. I have had a prior real estate private equity internship over the summer. It's a phone interview with an analyst from NYC. I went to Michigan and majored in Econ if that helps as well.

Hi, I want to ask a question for my friend. He got an email from CS saying there's gonna be a phone interview but they haven't followed up for 10 days. He sent an email to the recruiter and they asked him to be patient and someone would contact him. Is this sth that normally happens? Is it possible for him to not get the phone interview? What to do? Thank you so much!

The title captures it all. When my interviewer introduced himself on the phone I could not understand his name. I believe that repeating his name during the interview is important so he knows you remember it, but what would you do if you could not understand it. Also, how will you know who to reach out to to thank? Thanks for the help

I had a phone interview for an associate position with a BB over a week ago and I haven't heard back yet. I am wondering whether I should follow up yet or not. Hi guys, Recently I got a preliminary phone interview with Logan Circle Partners Asset Management. I am an undergraduate and the internship seems rather basic but it's the most desirable for me right now so I want to be as prepared as I possibly could be. Is there anything that I should or review or learn a little more about before the interview? Any questions you'd typically expect? All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, This is a serious question - what should be my opening line when I know that the recruiter is calling me on the phone? Literally, I am looking for the sentence that would be the perfect opening line. Not a native speaker here so I am really not sure. Where I come from, we just pick up the phone and say "Hi" and wait for other person to introduce. At work is different, of course. Thanks!
