Drop Class, Salvage GPA?

Currently have a 3.72 at a nontarget. In my CIS class I completely missed a homework assignment and made a 69 on my first exam somehow. I ran calculations, and I need A's across the board for the rest of the exams/homeworks to pull off a B. If I make a C, my GPA will drop to 3.62 overall (assuming I make A's in my other classes). Likewise, if i droo and make all A's ill have a 3.76 that i can round to 3.8. I have 13 hours left (graduate in May), so if I can't get my shit together by the drop date should I drop the class and take 16 hours next semester (3 upperdivision classes, 1 pe credit, CIS, elective) or take the GPA hit?

Pretty much, I dont want my resume shitcanned in the future because I can't pull a 3.7+ at state schools.

DROP - cut your losses. If it even comes up (and it likely won't), refer to the fact that you had other life circumstances that needed your attention, or some other CYA story. Just make sure that you're prepared to do well if/when you retake it.

Get busy living

@penn. yea this will be the 2nd W on my transcript and I will not be allowed to drop anymore in the next 2 semesters. I dropped another class earlier cuz I didnt want a B+....which was probably a dumb idea.

@pancakes. yea we are allowed 2 drops every 2 years..no "real" penalty besides a W and losing the money u paid for class

Seeing as though its an exchange should allow for some leniency as well. If it ever comes up with employers I'm sure it would be easy enough to spin it off as a language barrier (if applicable), exchange school not allocating services to help, misunderstanding of what the course was etc.

Drop. People look at your GPA. It is like the first thing any HR looks at for a student. I should have dropped some courses.... but just went for pass. In hindsight it hurt my GPA and overall my marketability to firms. GPA matters for like first five years(less and less as time goes) or so until you have something more substantial on your resume.

Can always say if employer asks why you dropped it that you were trying to expand your skill set and glad you took the course. Otherwise I would not have learned programming

This guy's on the money; drop the programming class. I wish I had someone tell me this sort of thing during my undergrad years.

There is no harm in having a withdrawal on your transcript. People drop courses all the time and admissions committee members completely get it. Don't think twice.

Thank you for your responses. It now seems that I will not be able to drop the class so I'd like to ask another, slightly different question:

If I get a first class degree from my school in the UK (equivalent of ~ 3.7-4.0 GPA) but I have a 3.0 GPA for my year abroad (with As and Bs and one D in an unrelated subject) would this be a big deal?

Again, my year abroad does NOT count toward my GPA but grad schools will still look at these grades. IF I end up with a first class degree but with a D in an unrelated subject on my year abroad, are top business schools/other grad schools out of question?

Thanks a lot!
