I wonder if anyone shares the view that the ultimate goal is to be in Government ?

I have some political ambitions of my own - way down the line though.

j/k...govt is certainly a respectable calling if that's what you want - not trying to start crap here.

Closing Door

by tcnjbanker123 User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 3 Banana Points Points) on 10/21/09 at 9:57pm

Despite high profile ex-banker politicians like Micheal Bloomburg and Jon Corzine, the door to politics is closing as bankers are now hated in the general population. A secratary on Wall Street is less respected than a pedophile in some parts of the country. I hope to enter politics someday and was raised in a family where all of the men go into public service after their lucrative business careers. I just hope that the door will be opened by a reversal of public opinion within the next decades.

Haha man you are so naive. Wall Street always went hand in hand with government. Where there is money there is power. Your best chances into government are via Goldman Sachs or the Fed, not via campaigning for your local representative. Since when does public opinion affect who gets into government (i.e. Paulson, Geithner) or what the government does? (i.e. Vietnam war, Iraq war, Patriot Act, BAILOUTS, healthcare bill, swine flu vaccines...)

Media

Media is another entry point into Government.

It all depends upon where/how high up you want to be. Campaigning for a local rep will get you places if you're a hands-on grass roots kinda guy, though you will have to climb a ladder. If you're the elitist type ( which many bankers are ) GS or the Fed is probably more suited, and the ladder won't be quite as long.
