Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.
"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."
The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."
Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.
"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."
Santorum is not the first presidential candidate to take up the obscenity issue. In July, Michele Bachmann signed a pledge vowing her support of a constitutional amendment that, among other things, called for a ban on all pornography. (It also effectively called for a ban on same-sex marriage.)
The Atlantic wonders if Santorum's wide-scale crackdown on porn could actually work.
The Daily Caller found someone who thinks it could. "If the government wanted to aggressively move against Internet pornography, it could do so," UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh told the site.
Wonkette's Rebecca Schoenkopf pointed out it's just another example of Santorum positioning himself as the extremely conservative choice for president.
"It seems that Rick Santorum has found time in his busy schedule of condemning 'radical' women for working outside the home and using birth control, and nagging English-speaking Puerto Ricans to speak English, and now is turning his hot, penetrating gaze to manfolk-bizness," she wrote.
HAHAHAHAHAHA.

I posit that any candidate who insists that he is going to ban porn might appear to be popular, but when it comes time for secret ballots, he is gonna fail. Hard.

I really don't know how else to respond to this.
I can't stand Santorum, but I don't have any problem with enforcing the laws on the books. That's the job of the President of the United States as the nation's chief law enforcer. If the obscenity laws on the books make no sense then they should be repealed. Ignoring law and picking and choosing which laws to enforce is more of the modus operandi of the Obama administration, which governs as a soft tyranny.
I want to know either

I totally hate myself for saying this, and clearly Santorum is a batshit crazy lunatic, but you do have to kind of give him props for making it this far. Seems like yesterday this guy was an absolute nobody and was always dead last in every poll. He campaigned in literally every county in Iowa, and basically lived there for a year. Somehow he went from 6th to 1st in Iowa in a matter of days, and the rest is history. You can't say he lacks perseverance.
That said, fuck Santorum.
Agreed, but I'd chalk it up to more a vote against Mitt than a vote in favor of Santorum. Except Alabama and Mississippi (and probably my home state of Louisiana later this month). They're my people and I love each and every one of them, but they're all crazy as shithouse rats.

I've been saying this since day one: this is team Republican protecting Romney. Santorum has no support beyond the ~20% right wing part of the republican party. This is an election on the economy, but if Santorum wants to hang in the race he needs to be pure social issues, which he is doing. Romney continues to be the clear front runner, but Santorum gets all the negative press, all the while Romney is running full stealth. Just like Cain, Bachman, Newt,netc all walked point for Romney, Santorum is now doing his duty.
Romney will win Illinois and all the other moderate republican states. Super conservatives will vote republican no matter what. Moderates and independents will vote for Romney because he is only about the economy. And that is what we need right now.
How is Newt walking point for Romney now? The only reason he is still in this race is because of his vindictive wish to eviscerate Romney. The guy hates Romney for his perceived lying in campaign commercials, etc., and literally wants to do anything to make sure he isn't the nominee.
This whole thing is a goddamn abortion. I don't mean this particular issue, I mean the entire primary. None of those people are worth altering my routine to go vote for. They incessant 24 hour blitz about what so and so said about the other guy's mutual fund's holdings and how it reflects on his love of Parisian hookers because he's a wall street fat cat just makes me want either vomit or sodomize one of them with an RPG. Its simply not worth it to care. On one hand you have people with the social beliefs of a 17th century cleric and on the other, a group that wants to spend money like a sailor on shore leave with a new credit card.

Just look at the money raised and the delegate count and ask yourself why Santorum and the clowns before him continue to get the press and the supposed "front runner" status when they are obviously and mathematically not front runners.
Because they absorb the negative press while Romney tests out campaign messages that he is going to use against Obama. They take the heat while he prepares for the ground campaign.
