Job search and financial modeling skills
I have been working in audit at a Big4 firm for the last 2 years and have started to look at opportunities in a more finance-oriented role. As I go through requirements for financial analyst-type positions, I'm seeing that most obviously require some experience with financial modeling. While I have self taught myself basic modeling, working in audit does not really give us the opportunity to learn, or at least demonstrate experience with modeling. My question is: how can I address this requirement when applying to positions that list this under required experience?
Any former Big4 care to share how they addressed their lack of modeling experience on their resume/cover letters when moving into finance/analyst roles?

In this economy I'd take a formal course. It's tough to demonstrate that you can model when an interviewer can't see it on your resume. That said, nothing in finance is outside the realm of understanding if you managed to pass the CPA. I would make that clear along with the fact that you've done the work on your own to learn financial modeling.
You can also spin it that in your auditing procedures you've rolled forward client financials using certain assumptions and then tested the model vs actual figures to look for breaks which are outside of your materiality and thus require closer examination or a larger sample to test.

define formal...you mean drop 1K on a 3 day in-person class?
Thanks for the responses.
Thanks for the responses. Anacott, by formal course do you mean a course like WallStreet Prep? If so would WSP be the recommended course to take or are there better courses?
