Please describe the interview / hiring process.
The first stage was to submit an online application on the Workday portal, then I was invited to do some online psychometric tests which consisted of numerical, logical reasoning, and verbal questions. Each test was time and took about 40 minutes to complete including the practice questions. After this stage, I was invited to do a pre-recorded video interview (Hirevue) for which I had 5 days to complete. The interview was mainly recording myself for the questions asked were competency and motivational based relating to Santander's core values why this internship and why this Bank etc... After the Hirevue I had to wait about 1 month. Then I was notified that I had been shortlisted for an assessment centre. We had a pre-briefing call to learn more about what to expect from the assessment center. The assessment centre covered 2 interviews, the first one was a 45-minute pure competency and motivational-based interview with a Risk manager and a Risk graduate, there were some questions specific to the division which were Why Risk and explain the different types of risks and what do they mean and other questions related to their core values and looking at personal skills like teamwork and communication, etc... After the first interview I had a 10-minute break. The second interview was with 2 Risk managers, when I joined the call they shared a PDF document for me to analyse and I had 30 minutes to do the presentation on the information on the PDF file, the topic should Santander integrate Artificial intelligence in all their business areas. The file had about 5 pages mentioning the different types of Artificial Intelligence and some data on how different banks are using AI to create my suggestion. At the end, I had some time to ask questions to the interviewers and I asked some really good questions the interviewers took note of and thought that was a good sign. The main thing I would say to other students applying to internships within Risk at Investment Banks is to do thorough research about the Risk beforehand, read the firm's values, and also find out what makes the bank stand out from its competitors. When it comes to interview advice please smile throughout the interview even if you think it is not going well, make sure to answer the questions asked by the interviewer correctly, and if it is a virtual interview try to look into the camera as much as possible. These are the things that I did to secure my Risk internship at Santander.
