Back Office Summer Internship Interview -
Overall, the back office was a fun place to work. The people were really nice, lunch was paid for every day, had a summer outing, and got to meet the MDs, analysts, and traders of the fund. Worked 40 hour weeks pretty much - I did go over pretty consistently but was paid OT. It was a great experience as a sophomore.
I was placed in the accounting department, but other interns were placed with the traders (I didn't really convey that trading would have been my top choice). Most of the interns came from local non-target schools but there were a few ivy kids.
One of the downsides of working in the back office was that their offices are located in Tarrytown and not the city (only the analysts and managers are in the city). Not too much to do in Tarrytown, but it was a quick trip into the city, and I went basically every weekend.
For non-locals (like me) it was somewhat difficult finding housing that was nearby. I almost plopped down the cash for an NYU dorm and was going to commute out every day, but I luckily found a room for rent on Craigslist literally a block away from the offices.
