Investment Banking M&M

The first-round interview was a virtual 30-minute session with an analyst and an associate from BMO’s Investment Banking division, specifically within the Metals & Mining group. The interview included a mix of behavioral and technical questions. I was asked to walk through my resume, explain why I’m interested in investment banking and metals & mining, and talk about relevant past experiences.

On the technical side, I was asked questions on topics like enterprise value vs. equity value, the impact of jurisdictional risk on mining company valuations, and how to approach valuing a single-asset mining company — including whether to use an NAV or DCF model. I also discussed discount rates and how commodity prices affect projections.

The interviewers were engaging and gave me time to ask questions at the end, which allowed me to learn more about the team’s culture and recent deals.
