Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I have formed a data base of all Boston area boutiques so they ere on the list. Reached out the the guy who was listed as the contact for career opportunities. Initially, they did not have any opportunities, but that being said, Kevin still took the time to get to know me on the phone so I could be kept in the pipeline for future positions. This happened around April. In the beginning of August, Kevin reached out to me about an open position. I had a phone interview with the President, Paul Bowen, and it went well so I was given a case study to complete, which consisted of a financial model and an executive summary of a CIM. I crushed that so was brought in with 3 others for a final round interview. The final round consisted of interviews with 8 Partners/MD's, like a super day. Unfortunately for me, I am in the tax department of a big 4 firm, and the interview was September 8th, the week before corporate returns were due. I literally didn't sleep the night before, and actually had to pull 2 consecutive all-nighters just to get the case study done. Needless to say, I couldn't prepare as well as I would have liked to of. That being said, I'm not going to make excuses, and I didn't perform well enough. I was not given an offer.
I like to solicit feedback on my performance so I know where to improve. Paul Bowen was courteous enough to give me actual constructive feedback, not some fluffed up BS that I usually get about how I just lost the numbers game. I appreciated this greatly. I would recommend Bowen Advisors any day of the week. The only con is that it is in Hingham, as most banks would ideally be in Boston.
