Interview
The head of the program comes on campus to do on-campus recruiting. Afterwards you are flown to White Plains for an interview with current managers and traders.
Interview Questions
The interview questions in general were pretty straightforward. There were no real curveballs, just be prepared to explain why you are there and what interests you in commodities trading. They'll go through your resume and ask you some questions. In addition they will test your language skills that you listed on your resume, since it is a relatively international firm. One of the harder questions was why Commodities trading and not some other kind of trading at bank. They also ask about any prior experiences with commodities.

Interview
This was a second-round interview after a 1 on 1 on-campus interview a few months earlier for their first year of a new commodity trader trainee program (starting 2008). They paid for an expensive flight, car service, hotel, and dinner the night before. Full day of 1 on 1 interviews (30-45min / ea) with CEO of trading subsidiary, director of research, top traders / 'product line managers', chief information officer, chief risk officer, others. The firm's structure is very small and very flat: there are a few top traders by commodity group (e.g. oilseeds, grains, energy), a trading flow desk (which later moved to Chicago), financial risk management desk of a few people (hedging book of exotic derivatives sold to farmers/consumers), a large research group to provide estimates of ags/softs commodity fundamentals that underly most of the risk taking. Not met: mid/back office, a risk group that calculates VaR & position limits using SAS. Traders were either from the midwest or foreigners (much of the office are foreigners from other offices on an extended assignment). Questions included the usual (walk me through resume, etc.), a few trading questions using supply & demand numbers and CBOT listed commodities, probing questions into my economics research, chance for mine questions about the program and firm. Modest selling of the program/firm was focused on a friendly/open culture with lots of smart collaborative people. Lunch was a terrible location (Uno's), but it was snowing I think.
Interview Questions
What is the relative size of diesel consumption compared to vegetable oil production?
How do CBOT prices converge with physical prices?
How do you handle fear?

Interview
It was so far one of the best first round interviews I had so far. I met with two people, a director and a junior trader at Bunge. I was expecting the traditional tell me about yourself type of question at the beginning, but he already had 8 or so questions ready to ask me in a sheet of paper. It consisted of situational questions (what would you do when... etc.) and some questions regarding market condition (describe your thoughts on the general market condition, latest trend in prices, etc.). Overall the interview experience was great and really enjoyed it.
Interview Questions
Some questions I got for the first round interview was: 1) Describe the market. It could be anything from US to global to a specific country, and it could be about anything really. He just wanted to make sure I have a sense of what's going on in the market now (prob related to grains would be good). Second is describe price trends of anything in the market now (again, related to one of Bunge's products would be good).

Interview
Sent in the application in the last quarter of the year. Nothing heard out in the next few months. Unexpectedly, the company called me half a year later to go down for interview. The interview process was rather fast from then on. 1st round was mainly behaviour and fit questions with HR. 2nd and 3rd round was abt the company's business and ops. Overall not much technical questions, but to sense the passion of candidate.
Interview Questions
Tell me something about the company that I don't already know.

Pay attention to the introduction and his/her position at the start. This gives a good idea on how to approach the question i.e. finance area vs ops area. I went with the risky move of sharing with the interviewer's area of expertise.
What is your opinion of the outlook of the industry in a few years' time

Talked about the historical movements in the past year and ongoing consolidation efforts in the industry. Overall, the interviewer appreciate frank and constructive feedbacks over some typical answer. Contrarian views are much welcomed by them.
