I submitted my application on their student portal, and they followed up with a phone interview 2-3 weeks later. Very easy interview, just a few basic behavioral questions mixed with basic understanding of financial securities & excel understanding.

Overall the process was really good and folks there are very knowledge of what they doing. They love California and hence they decide to work at CalPERS.
Interview Questions
Why CalPERS? Since it is a pension fund, they have a fiduciary duty to serve the peple of California. Hence CaLPERS does a good job to investigate if you are actually a fit for this job or not.

Apply online, wait and hear back. Reach out to team members to help get your foot in the door. Prior to applying to a job you have to take a state service examination. For the IO interview, you take a 30 minute excel / powerpoint exam. You are asked a question and solve. This is followed by a panel interview lasting about an hour. Say thank you, leave, then wait. Very collegiate culture.

Questions are broad, come with an understanding of the asset class you are applying to. Be prepared to write a presentation on the asset class. You will be asked specific, state mandated questions. I don't recall what they were
In the excel / powerpoint exams be as detail oriented as possible. They value quality investment writing. Check tenses etc. This could easily kill your chances of getting in.
