Investment Banking Summer Analyst

The waiting time for CICC was usually very long, you have to be prepared to wait for months before they get back to you. I believe the HR will screen on the Resume first before they arrange you to 1-to-1 video interview. Due to Covid all the interview rounds are virtual, there are 2 rounds of interview: first round with analyst or associates, second round with ED/MD level. Note, they will completely randomize your interviewers, so even if you apply for an overseas office (NY, Singapore), it is very likely that you will still get interviewers from Beijing or Shanghai. That also means the interviews are largely conducted in Chinese. During each round you have to talk to 3 people one-by-one and also back-to-back, so for each round the process should be about 40 minutes to 1 hour.

For each round the questions are a mix of behavioural and technical questions. They will ask around your resume a lot so you should be well-prepared with your past deals etc. The technical questions were largely standard IBD questions (DCF, WACC details, how 10$ change with depreciation affects 3 statements), but they will also ask on some accounting questions, like what's the difference between cost method and equity method etc. In general the interviewers were all pretty nice and helpful.
