The firm was founded in 2005 by Robert and Edward Conrads with the objective to offer unique investment opportunities on a global basis. Colchis Capital takes a top-down approach in evaluating investment opportunities that the firm believes offer favorable risk return dynamics.

The firm prides itself on its ability to seek out situations that are otherwise overlooked or unavailable to larger institutional investors, structure them appropriately and make them available to investors. The name of the Firm comes from an ancient Greek legend describing a fruitful land where Jason and the Argonauts captured the Golden Fleece from King Aeetes with the help of his daughter Medea. It was a distant land that was reached by way of the Black Sea followed by a long, treacherous trip down the River Phasis.
