Interview
Applied online with resume and waited 2 months. Went through a personality test and online skills test then heard nothing for another month. Had a phone interview with HR, then a 2.5 hour video interview with a portfolio manager and head of M&A with a case study and modeling test where I had to explain my views on a target company and come up with an appropriate price to pay based on their hurdle rates. Two weeks later got the decision and accepted.
Interview Questions
The case study's modeling test itself wasn't difficult but it made you have to think about how the company could acquire the target and explain what changes could be made to maximize cash flow. This required an understanding of their product offerings and making a call as to whether or not they were a company we would invest money in post-acquisition to grow organically or if it was one we would slash costs on and run just to maintain current customer base. The PM would ask questions about why you thought you needed to maintain R&D or multiple salespeople and would heavily emphasize past performance as constant without the changes we would apply post-acq.
