Investment Banking Summer Analyst

My best friend from high school knew someone at her school who is now a full-time analyst at Cowen. She got me in touch with him and we had an informal interview over the phone. He forwarded my resume to HR and I didn't hear back for a week. I emailed HR again, sending my resume and cover letter as a referral from the analyst I spoke to. I heard back from her a month later, saying they've re-opened hiring for summer analysts and asked me if I was still looking. I had a phone screen with HR and then a follow up interview with an analyst of my group preference. I didn't get past this stage, of which the next step would have been an office visit/superday.
