Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Late-stage recruiting for summer analyst position. Went through a recruiter and had a first round interview at the recruiter's office. This was fairly straight forward, with competency questions followed by a couple of maths/brainteasers (eg. "What is 7 cubed?"). Second (and final) round interview at Greenhill office, meeting 2 associates and a senior-VP in turn. The first associate was all technical, which I survived having watched a few M&I YouTube videos. The second associate was interested in a discussion of the industry and its nuances (I learned many deals happen for non-financial reasons eg. personal vendetta). The senior-VP was ruthless, beginning with technical questions around PE ratios and EV/EBIT vs EV/EBITDA then moved on to motivations. He ended up lecturing me for 20 minutes on the meaning of motivation and the real reasons for doing something ("you will remember this conversation in 3 months... 3 years").
