Interview
The interview process entailed an initial phone interview then invited to in-person interview. The phone interview involved walking the interviewer through my resume and some surface-level technical questions regarding the three financial statements. The in-person interview lasted approximately 45 minutes and went more in-depth on the three financial statements as well as personality questions, relevance of prior work experience, and how I would apply what I had learned in my undergraduate finance and business classes to the role.
Interview Questions
The most difficult question asked was, after being given a list of 5 event items, a balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, was to make adjustments to each financial statement and explain the effects of each event item on various metrics and performance ratios. I was then given 15 minutes to calculation various liquidity and solvency ratios and give my personal opinion on company standing, quality of earnings, and potential warning signs that company management should be made aware of and how to mitigate any effects from the event items.
