Interview
The first step was a phone interview with the hiring manager. Next, I had one on one interviews with each member of the senior team. Finally, I was given an assignment to complete to evaluate my quantitative skills in analyzing return streams.
Interview Questions
The firm provided a dataset with several time series' of returns and no information about the underlying strategies. The task was to provide an analysis and report based on the numbers. Without detailed guidance, the most difficult part of the analysis was deciding what specifically the company was looking for. For example, should a selection be made amongst the time series, could they be combined to form an optimal portfolio, what was the profile of the target investor, and could any of the returns could be shorted.
