Off-Cycle Investment Banking Intern

Applied for a IB Off-Cycle Analyst Intern position in New York. I applied online directly to the MD where I was pushed straight away to go for a quick phone interview - purely fit and then got invited for a final round in London. I got told in advance that I would not be supported in securing a Visa by EuroConsult (EC M&A) if I was to do the internship - I said yes anyway. There was 2 rounds of 2 people interviewing me - half fit, personality which went well, then a huge grilling of my CV on technicals (Think DCF, Three statements etc.) then on the market overall, What equities I am interested in, what M&A deals interested me recently, what did EuroConsult do and then a final question which was if I wanted to ask them anything.

Overall the fit and technical answers went well however the market questions (for me) went terribly. Got on well with them. I would highly advise being up to date with the latest mergers, know EVERYTHING about the company before the interview and be ready to get your knowledge and CV absolutely grilled.

I had the interview today so am waiting to hear back - mixed feelings - however I hope that I may have squeezed through on the fit questions despite the fiasco on the M&A/Market/Equity questions.

Tip: DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR CV THAT YOU ARE NOT 100% ABLE TO BACK UP - THEY WILL TRY TO EXPLOIT YOU AS THE INTERVIEW WAS 2 ROUNDS OF 2 ON 1 AND HIGH PRESSURE GRILLING.
