Interview almost exclusively of fit questions and why specifically the desire to join First New York as opposed to other shops. Met with one trader first, then followed up two weeks later meeting two other traders individually, one after the other. Technical questions were phrased so that you self-rate/self-describe level of knowledge. This format provides the opportunity for you to display knowledge of equities and trading strategies rather than testing your knowledge. Be ready at least to talk about some stocks and why you like/don't like them, their industry and/or current valuation. Was asked what books on trading you've read - be ready to cite at least 5-10 titles and authors.

A powerful connection of mine was very good friends with one of the high-ups there. I was able to get an interview arranged for me and also an accelerated interview process due to my connection. I was very impressed by the person who interviewed me, as he seemed extremely intelligent while also personable. The office is very nice.

I was brought on by someone I knew. I was basically hired prior to the interview. I got a chance to look around and meet some of the other employees.
