So how I first got the job was that I saw they had an office here and contacted the HR person via LinkedIn to learn more about the HK office and then got directed to the workshops, started going to those, traded on the practice platform, and then when I followed up with HR, they suggested positions in the US offices. I then scheduled a call and we talked about my future direction and why I was interested in FXCM. She encouraged me to apply online through the official career portal and I did, but I don't think I would've been pushed through to the interview part pf the process if I hadn't gone through LinkedIn and contacted them.

The followup phone interview was more technical. I had to know my stuff about the FX market (take the time to look at the currency quotes on Bloomberg [the iPad app was really helpful here] and follow FXCM's analyst site, DailyFX. Know the news, current events, and how it all relates to this market. Second, be able to market yourself in client service. Experience on the phones helps you out a lot here. Oh and strike a good balance to the working on a team/ individual drive questions and have instances in mind for the behavioral questions here. I ended up wrapping up this part with good questions (asked about training, what that consisted of) and he seemed impressed.

The video interview was the most challenging. Part of this was because I had such a huge time zone disparity (I was interviewing around 3, 4am my time for this stuff but they really appreciated the dedication). Got into a 24hr library at 2am wearing a business suit for this part and started out talking to the same person in HR again. We had an awkward silence at the beginning because I assumed I was to wait for the others, but it turns out that my interview was in stages instead of all three people at once as I had assumed. This was a little mistake here and be prepared for this. I really could have used some more small talk in the beginning. It went smoothly with the training manager though and then the VP. Again, know FX like the back of your hand. Know the news. Cannot stress this enough. And don't ask stupid questions. Ask about the job (stuff that's not in the online description, obviously), where other people have ended up. That sort of stuff.

After all that, ended up with an offer!
