Please describe the interview / hiring process.
A few alumni came to my college (Midwestern state university) as part of a recruiting team for General Electric's Financial Management Program Internship during the business school's Spring career fair. They held a company presentation for an hour a day before the career fair. During the company presentation, they talked a bit about the company and what they do. They emphasized that they were looking for people who were active on campus. They also specified that they had a strict GPA cutoff of 3.0 and above as it was a human resource policy. They went over a few of the different divisions at GE during the presentation as well as the hiring timeline. They said that applications could be turned in online and a phone interview would be conducted within a month after receiving an application. The next day, during the career fair, I went to the company booth and submitted my resume and spoke to someone. I went over my resume and talked a bit about my campus involvement which included being a part of student government, student newspaper as well as two undergraduate research experiences. The recruiter seemed to be really attracted by my involvement in student government and research experience. I got lucky because she knew one of the professors who was affiliated with the research institute that I use to work at. She immediately told me to apply online so that they could hopefully give me an interview slot on the next day, which was surprising since they did not mention conducting any on campus interviews during the company presentation. They were also really strict about hiring US citizens and permanent residents. An hour after the career fair ended, I received a phone call and text message telling me to call the recruiter that I spoke to back. She wanted to know whether I was really authorized to work in the US and I said yes since I was a permanent resident. Around 6 in the evening, I was notified that I was pre-selected to interview on the next day through an email. I had to confirm that I was attending by 9pm and was required to bring a copy of my transcript and a resume on the next day. I went for the interview on the next day and I believe that there were only 10-20 people invited to interview on the next day. It was a one on one interview and there were only 6 questions asked: tell me about the research that you did, tell me about your experience in student government, why did you choose the FMP internship program/ why finance?, tell me a time you took a risk an what was the outcome?, what division of GE do you want to work at? do you have any questions for me? She told me that they would submit my name to the human resource department on the following Monday if I was selected. She then told me if I was further selected that I was going to get a phone call within 2 weeks for a second round interview.
