David R. Loevner and Daniel D. Harding, former global investment managers at Rockefeller & Co., established Harding Loevner in 1989. The firm has focused since that time upon managing global, international, and emerging markets equity portfolios, using a fundamental research process with a global perspective on industry competitive structures.

Simon Hallett, who also managed assets for Rockefeller on behalf of Hong Kong-based Jardine Fleming Investment Management, joined Harding Loevner in 1991. Mr. Loevner and Mr. Hallett continue to lead the firm in their respective roles as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Harding retired from an active role in the firm and became a Senior Advisor in 2003; he retired completely in 2008.

At its inception in 1989, Harding Loevner introduced three investment strategies, based upon a shared investment philosophy and research process: International (non-US) Equity, Global Equity and Multi-Asset Global. In 1998, building upon our experience in emerging markets investing for the Global and International products, the firm launched a dedicated Emerging Markets Equity Strategy. More recently, Harding Loevner introduced an International Small Companies strategy in December 2006, and a Frontier Emerging Markets strategy in May 2008.

In August 2009, Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG), an investment holding company with stakes in a diverse group of boutique investment firms, acquired an interest in Harding Loevner. The remaining interest continues to be held by a broad group of Harding Loevner's professionals. Harding Loevner is governed by its senior employees and conducts its business independently.

As of March 2012, Harding Loevner has 65 employees, including 24 investment professionals. Its sole office is located in Bridgewater, New Jersey, a suburb of New York City. Assets under management are $19.7 billion.
