Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare finished 2018 on a high note by continuing its streak of boosting its annual earnings. Revenues for the year ending Dec. 31, 2018 totaled $46.67 billion, an increase compared to $43.61 billion in 2017 and $41.49 billion in 2016. The health care facilities operator— one of the country’s largest with 179 operating hospitals—benefited from increases in patient admissions, emergency room visits, and outpatient surgeries. While HCA continues to beat investor estimates, the company could face market headwinds looking to the 2020 presidential election where Medicare-for-All increasingly becomes a hot topic among candidates, putting health systems and payers’ business practices under the microscope.
