Interview
Responded to a craigslist ad for a real estate finance role. Followed up with multiple emails leading to an in-person interview. Discussed the business of commercial real estate appraisal, my applicable skills, and small talk during interview (very macro conversation). Was directed to investigate appraisal more seriously, and if still interested call to schedule a follow-up interview. My follow-up interview consisted of meeting the CRE appraisers on the team and picking their brain about their day-to-day duties, thoughts on the job (good & bad), and they long-term career arc. An offer was made at about the one-month mark from the initial application.
Interview Questions
For me this was my first full-time office job interview that wasn't an internship. I was still a college student at the time (summer before senior year), so it was difficult to convince the appraisal team that i could work full-time through school while maintaining a high quality of work at the office. It was difficult to convince them of my interest in commercial real estate because at the time i had neither any experience or any knowledge regarding the field. It was difficult also to explain my long-term career goals, and whether or not I'd be a committed long-term hire.
