Consultant

I had two case interviews at my school. One was quantitative and other more focused on strategic thinking. Both interviewers were consultants and were well prepared. The cases were actually ones they were worked so it was really interesting to go through the experience as it felt very much like real problem solving. There was guidance but clearly they were both looking for analytical acumen as well as structuring skills. You better be very articulate and take some time.

I received a call for 2nd round within a week and had two managers and a partner interview, all 1:1. One manager provided a stack of printed out slides and gave me 45mins to go through them and present recommendations. It was my most interesting case interview. At the end of it he provided feedback on what could have been and what actually happened (a real case again this one). The other manager actually did a brain teaser/puzzle kind of an interview. I was a bit surprised but I think I did ok. The partner engaged me in some blue sky thinking exercises and was focused on how my thought process worked.

Overall a very satisfying interviewing experience. LEKers are a bunch of energetic consultants who are very smart but also grounded (at least the 5 I met were decent blokes and that's a good sample for me). For preparation, for LEK especially, focus on your articulation skills - public math, structuring etc. Practicing with a partner - even those not experienced in case interviewing is helpful.
