Interview Details

What did the interview consist of?
1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
The process began with my resume and transcript being passed along to the company's HR department. HR then called me and we spoke briefly on the phone, asking if I was interested to come in and meet with a banker. I said I was, and another person from HR e-mailed me to work out scheduling. We scheduled the interview for the beginning of the following week. At that interview, I met with one associate for 30 minutes.

At the end of that interview, the HR person walked me out, and on the way out asked if I could come in for a longer day to meet with 6 bankers for 3 hours. I said that I would love to, and HR e-mailed me within an hour asking when I would be available. We set up the longer interview for one week from the day of the first 30 minute interview.

At the longer day, HR went over the list of 6 people I would be meeting with. Each interview lasted roughly 30 minutes. Most of the interviews involved me answering questions for the majority of the time, but one interview solely consisted of me asking them questions to get a better feel for the company.

At the end of the day, I was told that I would hear back by the end of the week. I didn't hear back at the end of the week, and followed up the following week. HR called me the day after I followed up and let me know that I had not received the offer.

Overall, I thought that HR was extremely courteous and accommodating throughout the entire process. The bankers all seemed perfectly nice, and willing to be helpful. There was definitely an emphasis on the idea of "mentorship" at the firm. They seemed intent on making it clear that everyone is expected to help each other out so that everyone improves. There is also an emphasis on the "entrepreneurial spirit" of the firm, and the fact that it does not split up groups, but instead has a generalist associate program.

Generally speaking, almost the entire interview was technical questions. There were fit questions, and I was asked a few things about why I should be hired and why I would make a good leader. But the vast majority of the questions were technical in nature.
