Summer Analyst
General Interview Information
Interview Details
I officially applied through my school's on-campus recruiting website and was given a first round interview. The first round interview was a 2-on-1 with a 1st year analyst and either a VP or an associate (don't remember exactly). The interview started with the usual "tell me about yourself," "why banking," and "why Moelis" questions, but then was strictly quantitative the rest of the way. The interviewers were fairly cold and seemed like they expected you to nail everything. The interview was heavy on accounting questions that needed to be done on paper. I left the interview with really no indication that it went well or poorly.
A few days later, I was offered a final round interview in New York City for their Los Angeles office. To my surprise, the final round consisted of a single, one-on-one interview with a VP. Also at their offices that day were students from Duke. The final interview was actually a bit more relaxed than the first round interview, as the interviewer was a bit friendlier. However, it was still very technical and was fairly difficult. After the interview, the interviewer did ask me about one of my interests (Classic Rock), which we discussed for a few minutes. After the interview, he told me that if I were to receive any other offers to let them know immediately so that they would speed up their process. I did in fact receive another offer that day and accepted it on the spot and informed the Moelis people before I was officially offered or denied.
