General Interview Information
Interview Details
The phone interview itself was scheduled by an assistant out of Des Moines, Iowa (Principal's headquarters), who put down a time where a recruiter (also out of Des Moines) would call in. I was not given direct contact info during the process or spoke to someone outside of HR.
I was called for a first round phone interview, which was mostly fit questions. I was asked about my current position, why I am looking for another opportunity, and what my goals were. I work in PWM and sit on our investment selection committee, so that was a big topic of conversation. They also asked about my CFA Program studies.
They did ask about compensation expectations in the interview. I said $60,000 range, and she said that would not be a problem.
I did not make it past the first round and did not get further feedback from the company. I was told that no matter what, I would get a phone call or email from the company within two weeks either saying I went on to the next round or that I was declined, but I did not receive any further communication at all. The only way I found out that I was declined was that I logged back on to the website where I submitted my resume and "decline" was listed, which to be honest I found rather unprofessional; it would be unrealistic to expect an offer for every single interview, but I do expect when someone makes a commitment to get back to you in a certain amount of time that they follow through with it.
To summarize: most questions were fit questions and background questions. I really didn't get any technical questions or accounting questions.
