Interview
The interview process seemed rather lengthy over the two month period it took to get the offer. I was required to come into the office 3 separate times for meetings in addition to take home assignments. All interviews were 1-on-1 but not terribly difficult. Paragon is a small shop and therefore a good majority of interviews were around fit and the technical stuff came out of the take home assignments requiring me to prepare a few investment memos on my "best ideas". The job was initially brought to me by a colleague I worked with in the past. He passed along my resume and began communicating with the company very quickly. Generally, I am pleased I accepted the offer. The investment team is rather strong and as a young analyst, I get to learn and experience a lot.
Interview Questions
What is your best investment idea?, What is going on in the economy?, What would you do in [x] situation on an investment?, Many direct lending questions around creditor protections, fixed income was a big part of the discussion, who else have you been interviewing with and how are those processes going?, tell me about a time when you made a mistake, tell me a joke, teach me how to do something new
Although there were no difficult questions, the investment team ripped into my best ideas. They thought of things I didn't and understood my pitch very quickly. Other than that, most other questions were around fit.
