Public Finance Investment Banking Analyst

An alumni forwarded my resume to a recruiter and had a phone interview for a position that never materialized. I later applied for the public finance IB position and was called because the recruiter recognized my name. Similiar phone interview as before. Was emailed a few days later to set up an in-person interview.

The interview was supposed to be three one on one interviews but ended up as a 3 v 1 with an MD, VP, and associate. The VP was a touch condescending about my work experience and quick to cut me off before I could finish most answers. Looking back, this may have just been his personality rather than a concerted effort to be rude. The MD also took a phone call during the interview (might have been an emergency, who knows).

Questions were almost all fit. I was asked about my Excel experience, if I knew any VBA, and general questions about my experience.

All in all it was a decent process although I got the vibe they had already selected their candidate before I had gotten there.
