The Interview Experience is a score from 1 star (very negative) to 5 stars (very positive) generated based on the Interview Insights at this company.

The number you see in the middle of the doughnut pie chart is the simple average of these scores. If you hover over the various sections of the donut, you will see the % breakdown of each score given.

The percentile score in the title is calculated across the entire Company Database and uses an adjusted score based on Bayesian Estimates (to account for companies that have few interview insights). Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Interview
I heard about the internship position through a previous intern. I reached out to the firm inquiring about internship opportunities and was invited for an in person meeting. The MD was down to earth and wanted to learn more about why I was interested in Investment Banking.

Good opportunity to break into IB. Most of the previous interns have leveraged their experiences to break into IBD at major firms.
Interview Questions
Tell me about yourself, why investment banking, how did you hear about the firm and pitch me a stock. There weren't any unexpected questions and mainly consisted of fit questions.

Interview
I applied for the position through my school's career portal. The MD who was making the hiring decision was an alumnus thus I was mainly competing against people from my school(Schulich School of Business). After I was selected for an interview they scheduled a phone call and it was rather standard with a mix of behavioral and technical questions. Then I went to their office for an in-person interview. To my surprise, the MD did not ask many technical questions and really focused on knowing me personally.(I think this is because all the past interns from my school have all done very good work therefore he wasn't very concerned with technical competency) Mr.Middleton was very down-to-earth and I genuinely liked talking to him. A few days later, I was extended an offer but declined due to personal reasons.

A few other things:
-They only hire 1 or 2 interns and many of my classmates got rejected after interviewing
-Past interns have all said that they were given real modeling work which is rare among most boutiques in Toronto; I know a few upper years who have interned here and went on to IBD at RBC,GS
-"Just be yourself and show you have a personality" This is the best advice I can give to a candidate
Interview Questions
How would you value an apple farm? (suppose it's in BC beside the ocean)

I basically said you could value it using DCF, Comps and even LBO (see how much a comparable farm sells for, or how much revenue can be obtained from selling apples etc.) but this was not what the interviewer had in mind.

They wanted something along the lines of using the logs from the trees to build boats and maybe convert the farm land into a mini-resort. The idea is to be creative and not to be restricted by the standard valuation techniques.

He asked personal questions such as my experience at my school, things about my background etc.

The key is just to be genuine and likable.
