Interview
I applied through my university job portal and was contacted two weeks later to have a phone screening. Questions were all behavioral and are used to gauge whether or not the potential candidate would be an ideal fit for the organization. Overall, super easy and friendly phone screen. Next, I was contacted to come in to the Dallas office and interview in person with 7 members of the staff (2 at a time). Again, strictly behavioral questions and the interviewers really wanted to know if I had any ambitions of becoming a CPA. This firm does accounting for PE funds and is considered to be middle office. They also handle the fund administration for several PE/VC clients. With that being said, it's a great idea to show how passionate your are about becoming a CPA.
Interview Questions
Why did you switch to accounting and why aren't you pursuing a career in finance? This was simply asked to gauge if I was 100% sure about being an accountant. They want to make sure the potential candidate isn't going to leave after a short period of time due to other aspirations other than being an accountant. Also, they do have several people in the office working with finance backgrounds and no accounting job experience. They will teach you everything on the job regardless of your proficiency in accounting.
