Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I applied for the Investment Banking Summer Analyst position at Stephens through my school’s career center. The process was very structured and professional, and it took about three weeks from first contact to the final decision. Stephens has a reputation for valuing fit and long-term potential, and that definitely came through in the interview process.

1. Initial Communication / Resume Drop:
I submitted my resume and cover letter through my school’s on-campus recruiting platform. A few days later, I was selected for a first-round interview. I also received a detailed email from their recruiting coordinator with the interview schedule and background information about the firm.

2. First-Round Interview (On-Campus or Virtual):
This was a 30-minute interview with an analyst from one of the industry groups. It was about 70% behavioral and 30% technical. Questions included:

Walk me through your resume

Why investment banking?

Why Stephens specifically?

A few basic technicals (walk me through a DCF, how do the three financial statements connect?)

A couple of market-based questions (e.g., thoughts on current interest rate environment)

The interviewer was friendly but expected you to know your stuff. Stephens places strong emphasis on fit, so showing humility, a strong work ethic, and team orientation matters a lot.

3. Superday (In-Person at a Regional Office or HQ in Little Rock):
I was invited to a Superday held at their Little Rock headquarters, which was a great experience and helped reinforce the firm’s culture. The Superday consisted of:

4 back-to-back 30-minute interviews with analysts, associates, and VPs

A technical interview that included valuation walkthroughs (DCF, comps, precedent transactions), accretion/dilution basics, and a paper LBO

A behavioral / cultural fit interview that focused on past teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution, and work ethic

A case study discussion (short-form, not required to build a model), where I was given an M&A scenario and asked to talk through my thought process and strategic considerations

Interviewers were down-to-earth, but sharp. They emphasized Stephens’ long-term client relationships, lack of a “churn and burn” analyst culture, and the opportunity to take on real responsibility early.
